Trine 3

  • 0
Once again our three heroes are thrust into another Frozenbyte adventure with puzzles, enemies and bosses. Play as the knight, mage and bowoman with all of their unique abilities. Overcome physics-based obstacles and take down all the enemies in your way! What could possibly go wrong?

https://www.gog.com/game/trine_3_the_artifacts_of_power

This Trine is a bit different from the other Trine games. Your characters are no longer restricted in 2D space and can move freely in and out of limited 3 dimensional space. Jump tricks, physics and lining up your character is more challenging because depth perception is "off" a bit. There is also an interactive map where you can freely select any level you like, but you have to unlock them with golden triangles. Didn't find enough triangles in the last map? Go back and search again... and again... and again... oh and the mage cannot spawn multiple cubes or planks. He can only spawn a single cube. No wonder he's confused...

Half-Life 2: Ep1 & Ep2 Co-op

I previously posted a video and some pics on Half-Life 2 co-op using the mod Synergy. We continued through Episode 1 and Episode 2. This mod is amazing as you can experience the episodes with a friend or a few friends and save Alyx again and again. Not only that, but Alyx will ride along, fight with us and insurgents as well! There are even some unique scenarios that would never happen playing single-player.... like you can drive a buggy in Episode 2 and your friend can ride along while using the gravity gun and a sticky bomb.

There were a few bugs in Synergy but were not the fault of Linux. Like your character can get stuck between two NCP's who are acting out a scene. Sometimes the hotrod was the only car to drive and the other players had to travel on foot. Sometimes we wouldn't have the gravity gun at all and other times the automated elevators didn't work properly. There were times Alyx wasn't with us and there was a door she needed to open. We would have to just...

Blade Of Agony in PlayOnLinux

Blade Of Agony is a FPS WWII Doom 2 total conversion. Fight against the Nazi regime in a Call-of-Duty style of gameplay in this unique retro WWII themed levels. Upgrade your gear as you find gold and complete a wide variety of levels in this action campaign.

https://boa.realm667.com/

I was able to play Blade Of Agony in the Linux GZDoom using the command line to launch the game. Unfortunately the 2nd level was extremely slow to the point where it was unplayable. I did a bit of research and tried to made some adjustments in the game, but just couldn't play. So of course I gave-it-a-go in PlayOnLinux with Wine and it plays beautifully! The developers admit that there are some features not meant to run in GZDoom which may play a part in the performance loss with OpenGL.... so give it a try with Wine!

Stormrite in Proton

Stormrite is an in-development Open World RPG in a fantasy medieval world. Chose a class like archer, knight, assassin, mage and more... then weild realistic weapons and hack down your enemies. This public test version will put you in a small mountain arena where you can practice using the weapons, learn the physics and controls of the characters. The physics are pretty realistic like Chivalry, where each slice or arrow will contact their body and react accordingly. Its fun to watch how they recoil and swing realistically where you open yourself to danger if you are too offensive.

https://kerds78.itch.io/stormrite

Proton handles the demo fairly well in PlayOnLinux and I was able to play indefinitely by reloading the level every time my character died. I can't wait to see more locations and the "open world" the developers are advertising... but the weapons and realistic physics are top-notch and pretty fun. The demo is developed...

Much like Darksiders... Castlevania satisfies our 1990's console action needs with modern graphics, skills, and parkour abilities. The end is near and God has a message through your deceased wife. Complete the prophecy and maybe you can bring her back.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/234080/Castlevania_Lords_of_Shadow__Ultimate_Edition/

A few years back I tried Castlevania with PlayOnLinux and keyboard/mouse combination. It included a bunch of steps setting up Wine and Steam, then the game was barely playable as I didn't have a controller. Today, Proton handles launching the game perfectly and my Xbox controller feels right at home with the controls.

Tiny and Big is one of those game you will never forget!
In a surreal sandbox world where underpants give you super powers... traverse towers and bridges made of stone... which of course, can be cut apart, dragged and pushed anywhere with powerful physics. Nevermind the dude with underpants on his head trying to kill you...

https://www.gog.com/game/tiny_and_big_grandpas_leftovers

The developers of Tiny and Big provided a native version on Steam and GOG. It runs beautifully on my GeForce GTX 1060 without any issues. It is a great sandbox puzzle platformer with some great physics moments. Cut almost any object into huge slices or small pieces. Use these objects to climb around and reach the end of the level.

Trine is a clever physx based fantasy platformer where you can switch between 3 characters in order to progress through the levels. Play as an female archer, wizard or knight and use their skills to traverse through traps, skeletons, dungeons and much more! Also connect a controller and play co-op with a friend! Amazing graphics, animation and effects... what else could anyone want?

https://www.gog.com/game/trine_enchanted_edition

Trine is an older game from 2009 and required a few older libraries, but I found they were already available in the "Lib" directory in the game folder. So I just renamed them to the library the game was expecting and it worked. Here is also a post on GOG about how to install the proper libraries:
https://www.gog.com/forum/trine_series/fix_missing_libraries_for_trine_1_2_on_ubuntu_1804_64_bit

Other than that, I was able to play with Keyboard & mouse and my wife was able to play with Amazon...

Welcome to the strange world of Zenozoik. Meet all kinds of creatures and humanoids, spend a little time punching them in the face... join up with Rimat and save MotherFather... wait... also defeat a Golem, then save the world? I dunno, nothing makes any sense but the fighting is AWESOME!

Proton handles Zeno Clash 2 without any problems. I can run the game on the highest settings without any issues on my GeForce GTX 1060. Slay the minions of hell and then slay their masters in this 3rd person melee action game! Pick a class and a spiritual gift then explore the hellish lands where only tormented souls exist. Collect these souls and upgrade your weapons, armor and abilities in order to take on huge impossible beasts. You will die, but its not the end... continue with friends in the mysterious co-op summoning and rid this world of demonic presence laying waste to everything we know.

Dark Souls Prepare to Die edition is no longer available on Steam because there is now a Remastered edition. But if you still have the original, implement DSFix and enjoy a pre-remastered edition with all kinds of settings and features to make your experience high quality and detailed.

Honestly, Dark Souls is probably the most difficult game I've ever played! I've never finished it... in fact I've never killed the second boss between the towers. Its too hard and unforgiving...

Half-Life 2 Co-op Synergy Mod

Just about anyone has played Half-Life 2 at this point and maybe even played Synergy... but did you know there is a native version for Linux?

Play again as Gordon Freeman and escape the city through canals, sewers, beaches, Ravenholm and City17. You aren't alone, not only is the rebellion there to help, but you can bring a few friends along! Enjoy the physics puzzles, jump tricks, hover jet and buggy with a few friends... you never know what is going to happen.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/17520/Synergy/

Synergy installed without issues and I was able to host on a LAN and my other PCs joined easily. You use the classic listenserver interface where you pick a level start the game. There have been a few unexpected bugs which is honestly... expected with mods. You can not save the game either, but Synergy packs an autosave and autospawn feature so you all can play cooperative together without loosing a lot of progress...

The Haunted began as an Unreal Tournament 3 total conversion which one the "Make Something Unreal" competition. The developers used their earnings to develop a full professional release: Hell's Reach

I originally posted a guide for The Haunted as an Unreal Tournament 3 guide, but later posted Hell's Reach in PlayOnLinux. The game ran fine and Wine handled Unreal engine without any issues. The only problem was installing Windows Steam and configuring everything in PlayOnLinux. Today Proton makes it simple and easy. Download, set compatibility with Proton and play. Nuff Said!

I never had any issues running it with Wine and my GeForce GTX 1060 handled the 2D graphics perfectly. This is a short game, but pretty dang fun and free. The zombie apocalypse has arrived and begun a whole new war! World War Z is a co-op third-person shooter very similar to Left4Dead series. Slay countless zombies in an objective based experience in New York, Moscow, Jerusalem, Tokyo and Marseille. With an arsenal of weapons you will try to escape linear levels with your friends (or bots) and survive massive hordes of zombies.

https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/world-war-z/home

World War Z is one of the rare games that actually works in PlayOnLinux with Epic Games Launcher. I had to do a bit of trial-n-error just to get the Launcher working by adding Media Foundation, Visual C++ 2019 and DXVK, but it actually works. The only issues I had playing this game is a bit of stutter at the begging of each level. I'm sure there is some caching going on there and its annoying, but if you are patient, it eventually begins to run well. I also had to crank down the settings as...
