Yes, on all counts, surprised I haven't heard more of her, though I shouldn't be, I mean where would I have heard of her...I'm a hermit! LOLThis video is over produced but the voice and delivery are wonderful.
OK, here's a contribution; one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of his time, mainly because he was a contemporary of Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello, both at the height of their powers. Listen to Graham Parker and the Rumour, and 'Local Girls'. This guy has an uneven body of work, but some fantastic stuff in there, and one of the best bands around. I discovered him when an English friend of mine sent me a tape he made of the Rumour playing with Southside Johhny and the Asbury Jukes in the UK somewhere. I was a big fan of the Jukes, and grew attached to Graham Parker and his band as a result.
Leo Kottke-now that name has been lost to me for many moons! Gonna go look for more! Thanks!Ever been stuck far from home, broke down>
Here is another Melody Gardot for you Daniel.Yes, on all counts, surprised I haven't heard more of her, though I shouldn't be, I mean where would I have heard of her...I'm a hermit! LOL
And here's another - maybe the super-coolest writer/performer of the pre-punk generation: Willy DeVille. This guy was SOOO cool. He played a lot of the local NYC clubs when I was in my teens. My friends and I snuck into CBGB's one night when we were about 17 or so, and were blown away by this guy. Sadly, he died a few years ago, leaving a massive body of work that encompassed all genres: from blues to rock, cajun to soul, he could sing ANYTHING. And his band, Mink Deville, was also a great live act that I've seen many times.
David always went his own way...There's a quote that floats over the video for a moment that I can't just let go by without recondition. How serious is moonlight?
The Pointers...Hell yeah! And why not more than white?
I posted a "live" version of this song and it's bugged me ever since . it just didn't have the nuance of the org. rec. that I fell in lust with.
I smile and laugh every time this comes up on my shuffle music list. First time I've seen her perform I'm not disappointed, or I wouldn't be posting this
Written upon the occasion of his son's passing.
