Who's heard Little Richard sing "Shake a Hand"?

Here is another Melody Gardot for you Daniel.
Obviously a mature talent refined in her approach and delivery. We she and I, don't have quite the same taste in music, but I'd probably never get up to turn her off.":O}

This is the only song I've head from her that'sreally stuck with me. For me this is what a perfect video looks like

Shadows And Light
by Joni Mitchell

Every picture has its shadows
And it has some source of light
Blindness blindness and sight
The perils of benefactors
The blessings of parasites
Blindness blindness and sight
Threatened by all things
Devil of cruelty
Drawn to all things
Devil of delight
Mythical devil of the ever-present laws
Governing blindness blindness and sight

Suntans in reservation dining rooms
Pale miners in their lantern rays
Night night and day
Hostage smile on presidents
Freedom scribbled in the subway
It's like night night and day
Threatened by all things
God of cruelty
Drawn to all things
God of delight
Mythical god of the everlasting laws
Governing day day and night

Critics of all expression
Judges in black and white
Saying it's wrong saying it's right
Compelled by prescribed standards
Or some ideals we fight
For wrong wrong and right
Threatened by all things
Man of cruelty-mark of Cain
Drawn to all things
Man of delight-born again born again
Man of the laws the ever-broken laws
Governing wrong wrong and right
Governing wrong wrong and right
Wrong and right

Wowsa, this is an amazing song. It's heavy and a bit light. Well done, great choice!

OK, here's a contribution; one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of his time, mainly because he was a contemporary of Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello, both at the height of their powers. Listen to Graham Parker and the Rumour, and 'Local Girls'. This guy has an uneven body of work, but some fantastic stuff in there, and one of the best bands around. I discovered him when an English friend of mine sent me a tape he made of the Rumour playing with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in the UK somewhere. I was a big fan of the Jukes, and grew attached to Graham Parker and his band as a result.

Thank you for posting this, ThunderRd. I was woefully unaware of Graham Parker. Shame on me!

There's a vid that's made available after "Tears.." that explains the tragedy of Mr Clapton's son's death. Sobering. It's a good song.
Thank you I watched.

From the Spoonriver anthology by Edgar Lee Masters
Inscribed upon a child's gave stone.

"Taken from the evil to come."

If we're in a quotation mood I like this one that comes right before the preface of John LeCarre's "The Honorable Schoolboy:"

I and the public know
What all schoolchildren learn
Those to whom evil is done
Do evil in return

-W.H. Auden

But does this excuse the most evil ones that hold the whip over our heads?

The above Graham Parker post deserves one that cheats a bit, because it's from years later. I am a stone Huey Lewis and the News fan, in fact I used to smoke weed with him.

And here's another - maybe the super-coolest writer/performer of the pre-punk generation: Willy DeVille. This guy was SOOO cool. He played a lot of the local NYC clubs when I was in my teens. My friends and I snuck into CBGB's one night when we were about 17 or so, and were blown away by this guy. Sadly, he died a few years ago, leaving a massive body of work that encompassed all genres: from blues to rock, cajun to soul, he could sing ANYTHING. And his band, Mink Deville, was also a great live act that I've seen many times.

Holy crap, this guy is something else!
Well done, a-sneakin' into NYC nightclubs as a teenager!
Thank you very much for adding this to my catalog of artists! I gotta tell ya, Mink Deville plays some serious Latin
musica, it's the real deal.

Thank you very much for sharing this with us, you still Da Man Thunder!

Girl knows how to rock!

A former musical partner in crime's, JK! mom drove a taxi in Seattle for many years. She gave Joan Jett and a friend of hers a ride to a laundromat. The women said they loved the time alone and out of the spotlight. My pal asked his mother "did you get an autograph?"
"No" she answered, "I didn't want to intrude on their down time."

My pal was PO'd, he was a big fan of Joan.

I was stranded once but fortunately or not didn't have a car to fix with no moolah to my name.

Some of his earlier material left something to be desired, imho. What am I daring to say here? As if anything I ever did in music was ever in the same universe as Mr Kottke's? The shame, tsk tsk.
