Who's heard Little Richard sing "Shake a Hand"?

This was the last song that Leonard Cohen wrote? Sincerely doubt that. It was covered by many, many artists. Long before I heard Leonard's own version. It is one of the greats. Jeff Buckley's take on the song is very well done. I could be wrong, and not the first time.

No, not his last, who said it was?

Post number 210 in this thread. Read the last sentence you posted. Obviously I didn't quite understand what you were saying.
It's always something.
As I post three in a row, I meant this was my last Leonard post. Sorry.

I posted a "live" version of this song and it's bugged me ever since . it just didn't have the nuance of the org. rec. that I fell in lust with.

I haven't heard this classic in a long-long time. Moved me then, moves me now. Thanks!

I smile and laugh every time this comes up on my shuffle music list. First time I've seen her perform I'm not disappointed, or I wouldn't be posting this

Theres a few really good covers on this one, but this remains my favorite
I learned yesterday from a Netflix BIO that this song was written by the the Great Robert Johnson..Who knew!?

Shadows And Light
by Joni Mitchell

Every picture has its shadows
And it has some source of light
Blindness blindness and sight
The perils of benefactors
The blessings of parasites
Blindness blindness and sight
Threatened by all things
Devil of cruelty
Drawn to all things
Devil of delight
Mythical devil of the ever-present laws
Governing blindness blindness and sight

Suntans in reservation dining rooms
Pale miners in their lantern rays
Night night and day
Hostage smile on presidents
Freedom scribbled in the subway
It's like night night and day
Threatened by all things
God of cruelty
Drawn to all things
God of delight
Mythical god of the everlasting laws
Governing day day and night

Critics of all expression
Judges in black and white
Saying it's wrong saying it's right
Compelled by prescribed standards
Or some ideals we fight
For wrong wrong and right
Threatened by all things
Man of cruelty-mark of Cain
Drawn to all things
Man of delight-born again born again
Man of the laws the ever-broken laws
Governing wrong wrong and right
Governing wrong wrong and right
Wrong and right

OK, here's a contribution; one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of his time, mainly because he was a contemporary of Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello, both at the height of their powers. Listen to Graham Parker and the Rumour, and 'Local Girls'. This guy has an uneven body of work, but some fantastic stuff in there, and one of the best bands around. I discovered him when an English friend of mine sent me a tape he made of the Rumour playing with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in the UK somewhere. I was a big fan of the Jukes, and grew attached to Graham Parker and his band as a result.
