New to Linux

This is the design goal of Mint. That relatively inexperienced persons can download it and teach themselves (experimentation,(click on this and see what it does.)) enough to get by and start to learn the rest.

So...How are they doing Por Por? Sounds like you got by and are well on the road to learning the rest. ":O}

I don't realy know yet. the computer locked up-something it hasn't done before.Since it's running 24/7 I have no clue as to why, or when. After a hard boot, it seems to be running well. We shall see=====

I've decided that you shall not suffer alone! I have taken upon myself the the task of driving myself crazy with Mint 19 "Tara" BETA

Which means, as it's beta, that I, like your self must install from scratch. Truth is I really enjoy installing from scratch. If I don't do it at lest 3 times a year I simply loose it. I start forgetting everything. So this is good for me and I f I decide other wise I can restore my backup. ":O}

I'll start posting on Tara in a day or two, so far, this is going to a biggy. Mint's going to support it for 5 years,.

I would recommend ubuntu flat out.

Every one has a favorite. Basically except for Cinnamon desktop Mint is Ubuntu.
But Ubuntu held back for a time, I believe it's 6 months. This gives Mint great stability.

So it would be stability vs getting the newest and latest.

But hey Linux has something for everyone.
