'Fraid that not every single folk song resonates with me. "At Seventeen" is of course a classic and I remember the song, if not the lyrics and chords well.

I have a hard time making worthwhile comments on "My" songs. remember we are deep into the realm of opinion where even our own opinions change over time.

    Reminds me...

Picasso was at one of his art shows and encountered a woman who was reported to have said to him,

"I don't know anything about art, but I know what I like."

    To which he responded:

    "So Madame does the cow."

To which I would respond, so madam does the artist. I don't accept the implied assursion that Artists know more than anyone else about the Art they love. We can indeed create in realms we do not understand. I see art as trying to understand and give expression something just beyond our grasp.

And so long as it remains beyond our grasp it continues to challenge us to see more.
When we do see more, we fall in love.

    That little separates us from cows is something every artist should know! ":O}

Not everything resonates with me either, why should we expect otherwise?. We each hum along
to the songs that move us and quite often it's not so much the song that moves us as it is the relationship we personally have with a song.

So when discussing any art form, I walk on pins and needles. Objective criticism is only very rarely welcomed.
Is only very rarely objective. I in fact don't seek that in our thread. I seek to know more of the relationship a person has with their art.

The how and why they have been drawn to this of that. That I may or may not have been similarly drawn is of little consequence. For the realm of opinion is ephemeral and a passing thing.

    Music is out there in the world and calls to each of us in a differing voice.":O}

I don't find Art I don't like objectionable if it tells the truth. art that lies is propaganda.I have found art that is frankly terrible but tells the truth of a 5 year olds vision.

Drawn Stick figures can tell the story of a child's joy or or the story of their pain.- Art is what we make of life, art or mayhem is our response to life. If the response rings true others will feel it, and understand it as a response to life

Happy to say that the link works for me, thank you porporme! Let's see... I must say that I do like the chorus of the song that starts at 15:17 on..."The Asylum Choir." Here's a tune of Russell's that I really like:

Shirley and Lee's "Let the Good Times Roll" is a classic classic. It's been covered more than red ants on a honeycomb.
"Charlie Brown" is one of my all time favorites, what a great, great song. Thank you Daniel~!

Dick Clark, ugh, what a vampire.

Leon has a number of songs I simply have to hear at least twice a year. "Back to the Island"
Still sends me, well back to the islands of my imagination.

Lowell George's genius shining through here:

Little Feat is my #1 favorite band, ever. If you're not familiar with them, you should be! Still a working band after all these years, and one of rock music's legendary live acts.

Eric Clapton once took his band to a Little Feat show in New York, because he wanted them to hear "what a proper band sounded like."

Lowell's death was a tragic loss, an extremely underrated songwriter and musician, but his songs have been covered by countless others. A little reading will show you how respected he was by his contemporaries.

And one more, much later, here with Craig Fuller as the lead singer:

Craig was stolen away from the band Pure Prairie League sometime in the '80s. A classic voice, few better.

A little trivia note: the guy playing the percussion and congas is Sam Clayton, an original member of the band. His sister, Merry Clayton, was the female voice on the Stones' 'Gimme Shelter' - and if you know the song, you know the haunting vocal I'm talking about.

I've always loved the drum line on Dixie Chicken, that easy shuffle.

Richie Hayward was another loss to music; he had a unique feel for all genres, but I liked him best on Cajun music, which Little Feat performed regularly.

If you like Little Feat, you'll love this blog post by Pill Payne, the keyboard player and one of the founders, written after Richie's death in 2010:

I don't understand some of the lyrics, as per usual. I like the song, thanks for the post.

Shucks, the content won't play in this BEST country in the world. However, I've known the song for years and it's one of my all time favorites.

I didn't know jack about Little Feat. I thought they were a Southren band, but they were from LA. What a mind flock. "Willin" alone should put them in the Rock n Roll "museum of the greats." Sorry, can't remember it correctly ..is it the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?

Thank you for the above link!

Perhaps prudery keeps me from really enjoying "~ Tennessee Chicken." Should be a fave but mah mind is holdin' me back.
    Highly unusual!
