A haunting tune, one that follows you on long walks though music.
Why was rock so foolish as to let the Sax fade?

Risky endeavor! This lady has it all. And one misstep and she could lose it all.

In reality, most pop music is composed by boomers and then performed by musicians who are much younger.

Same applies to most of the commercial and trendy stuff that teenagers and adolescents are in to - they claim it as their own without realizing it was created by their parents' peers.

Here the sax seems to me to be groaning in his soul as he gave birth to rock and roll/

The sax in rock music died with Clarence. [Although I really really like Mindi Abair, she is great.]

I have one issue with the selections here, though...Clarence's sax work on Bruce's 'Jungleland' trumps 'Born to Run' any day, all day.

Sorry to be snappish. It's just that I knew these facts about Buddy Holly and his first adventure at the Apollo. The cover band actually improves upon the original compositions in places, but it sure ain't Buddy Holly And The Crickets.

And Mr Holly played a white Strat in this debut, not a sunburst Strat. It's simply all wrong.

You make a good point about the fact that White acts played everywhere while Black artists were confined to the Chitlin Circuit.

Here's a nice read about one of the quintessential albums of our generation, in celebration of its 50th anniversary of release.

'Tapestry'. Gawd, what an album, simply perfect:

[ I have a special, personal affection for this record; I got to second base for the first time while it was playing on my girlfriend's record player ;) ]

    1. No it's not buddy on account of he's dead.
2.Maybe one or two percent care what guitar he played.
    3. You may not realize it but this isn't so much about Buddy''s music as it is about the reception a new and possibly hostile crowd gave him. it's about THEIR ability to cut through the bullshit and listen to new music
even when it wore a white face.
There are moments in music history that transcend music, yet still fulfill musics purpose.
Moment where music erases all hat's gone before and points to a new beginning.

Rock brought us together. rock allowed us to join in time and in unison to throw off the sins of our past.
Before Rock with the exception of a very few very brave churches there was no where that Whites and Blacks came together in a public way.

Buddy brought a new White message to Blacks.
"Hey we would like to entertain you as you have entertained us, if you can put our past behind you.

Here's what they said to him.
    What past? lets rock!

"In ancient China Music was seen as something serious and holy. It brought all hearts together in unison
    To worship the divine."

Don't miss the divinity of that moment When we first said "were sorry."
    And they forgave us.
