Sacred 2 Gold has been improved in every way over the original Sacred. Better models, lighting, animation, skills and much more. At the same time it still "feels" like the original Sacred with the same Action RPG style of gameplay. Similar fighting styles, leveling up system, powerups and navigational styles. There are few additional aspects of the game to get us addicted for long nights of slaying minions.

    Click Accept
    sacredtwo35.png

    Rule of Thumb:
High settings = More detail, lower frame rates
Low settings = Less detail, higher frame rates

    Conclusion:
Sacred 2 Gold runs Great on my GeForce 550 Ti. It supports all resolutions and the mouse works great in the Wine virtual desktop. Quests and cooperative complete perfectly! Its a huge world in Sacred 2 Gold.

The only problem I have is that it crashes exactly one hour after starting the game. The only solution is to Press F7 to save your character or exit the game before one hour lapses. Then launch again and continue.

Good guide as always, however how time stay stable (crash issue)?????

    :)
  2. booman
Pretty dang stable after I re-installed the game. I actually played for an hour cooperative via LAN with a Windows Vista machine hosting the game.
Thats when I decided to post the Guide. At first I was skeptic because of the random crashing, but now it run GREAT.

Hello, I tried to install Sacred 2 Gold GoG from disk and the installation always hangs up at around 75% of the progress bar. I tried your step-by-step guide and the same happens. Did you encounter this ? I tried on Win 7, Win XP, 32bit, 64bit, several different Wine versions but everytime it hangs up at 75%. I even left it over the night but the progress bar won't move, and there is no disk activity. Any ideas ? P.S.: I am installing on a 64bit Debian Sid system, dual video card: GTX660m and integrated Intel video on i7 quad-core CPU. I can play games with any of the 2 cards, the GTX with primusrun (bumblebee).

Yes, I have seen this issue with the GOG installer. When you install PlayOnLinux packages, add:
    • gdiplus
Then it should finish the installation.
I had this same problem with Van Helsing and it would eventually pop up an error and then finish the installation.

Works great, it didn't want to launch at all with wine 1.8 but oh well...

Thanks a lot again for all the effort you put into this booman.
  6. booman
So what version of Wine did you end up using?
No problem! I have a lot of fun testing games.
  7. Duapruis
    The one you used, 1.7.32
  8. booman
    Try using Wine 1.8.3

Do you get any errors when launching Sacred 2?
  9. Duapruis
Worked! and believe it or not the game loaded to the main screen even faster :O
  10. booman
Nice! Its amazing how newer stable versions of Wine fix things.

Never change the default installation location inside the Wine drive. Leave it to: "C:\GoG Games\Sacred 2 Gold\" or whatever it is. Also, make sure you have write permission on your ".playonlinux" path (usually in your home folder, take care that it is a hidden folder). If you have disk space issues in your home folder where ".playonlinux" is and where usually the games are installed, you can move ".playonlinux" on any disk you want but make a symbolic link to it (it's like a shortcut to the folder): in terminal write
    Code:
    ln -s /media/newdrive/.playonlinux /home/user/.playonlinux
See "man ln" in terminal for more options.
  13. stefutz
Make the symbolic link after you have moved the ".playonlinux" directory.
  14. booman
    Thank you stefutz!
Also, make sure you are using PlayOnLinux 4.2.12 and a newer version of Wine like:
    • Wine 3.0
    • Wine 3.13
    • Wine staging versions
Octalink, which version of Sacred 2 are you installing? Is it the GOG version?
  15. Octalink
    thank you for recommendations.

so, if i have only one disk and enouth space on it, then i dont need to make a symbolic link?

    - i've downloaded new version of Playonlinux 4.2.12
    - i've downloaded wine 3.0 and 3.13 (also 3.0 staging), is it ok?
-it was a sacred 2 gold but not from GOG. a dont know which version.
ive tried to install with new version of wine and POL and ive got the same error.

do i need to download wine 3.0 or 3.13(amd64)?
    booman likes this.

Hmm, are you installing from a DVD?
I've only tested the GOG version, but you can always copy all of the data from the DVD into a folder on your Desktop, then install it from there. That is usually what I do when a Disk is causing issues in Wine. This is a common problem.

Also, PlayOnLinux will make a shortcut for you when the game is done installing. No links necessary. Unless you mean the DVD of course, then you can go into Wine Configuration, Drives Tab and mount the DVD there as a D: drive.

Wine 3.13 should be fine. If not then go back to Wine 3.0. Either of these should run Sacred 2

    OR you can
Install the game in Windows  yuck i know
copy the game file directory to HDD or backup_drive game_drive
Then go to your Linux OS and copy all the files to the right dir GOG or Games folder or programsXfiles etc etc where ever the path was in windows
Then just use a wine version to run the game voila :)
