Trine 3

Once again our three heroes are thrust into another Frozenbyte adventure with puzzles, enemies and bosses. Play as the knight, mage and bowoman with all of their unique abilities. Overcome physics-based obstacles and take down all the enemies in your way! What could possibly go wrong?

https://www.gog.com/game/trine_3_the_artifacts_of_power

This Trine is a bit different from the other Trine games. Your characters are no longer restricted in 2D space and can move freely in and out of limited 3 dimensional space. Jump tricks, physics and lining up your character is more challenging because depth perception is "off" a bit. There is also an interactive map where you can freely select any level you like, but you have to unlock them with golden triangles. Didn't find enough triangles in the last map? Go back and search again... and again... and again... oh and the mage cannot spawn multiple cubes or planks. He can only spawn a single cube. No wonder he's confused...

Chaosbane is a Warhammer themed action RPG bundled with all the expected thrills! Choose a class, wield deadly swords, hammers, magic, bows and clear out dungeons, sewers and graveyards! Slaying all kinds of corrupted & mutated monsters of Chaos! Play co-op with your friends online or couch-co-op with a controller.

Chaosbane (GOG version)is a very linear game but packed with story and action. All kinds of minions will attack from every angle and expect mini-boss and BOSS fights too. The graphics are beautiful and I was able to play with my GeForce GTX 1060 with minimal frame rate loss. At first the game was dragging along so I messed with some of the graphics settings and was able to get a decent frame rate.

Trine 2 Complete Story

Trine 1 completely blew-me-away with detailed 3D graphics, special effects, physics puzzles and co-op action. Who knew they could out-do themselves with Trine 2? Play as the same three characters: Knight, Mage & Thief and traverse amazingly detailed environment where almost everything is interactive! Upgrade new skills on the skill-tree and use your abilities to solve physics puzzles and reach your objective. There is even more amazing fantasy environments where everything is animated and almost every object or ledge is interactive.

https://www.gog.com/game/trine_2_complete_story

There is even an epic level where you are swallowed by some huge monster and you have to jump around this oozing disgusting level of guts, acid and flesh. Don't miss this one... its amazing! I'm not even a huge platform fan, but Trine has much more to offer than most simple platform games.

The only issues I had running the GOG version is in Mint. Full-screen would not cover the bottom...

Tiny and Big is one of those game you will never forget!
In a surreal sandbox world where underpants give you super powers... traverse towers and bridges made of stone... which of course, can be cut apart, dragged and pushed anywhere with powerful physics. Nevermind the dude with underpants on his head trying to kill you...

The developers of Tiny and Big provided a native version on Steam and GOG. It runs beautifully on my GeForce GTX 1060 without any issues. It is a great sandbox puzzle platformer with some great physics moments. Cut almost any object into huge slices or small pieces. Use these objects to climb around and reach the end of the level.

Trine is a clever physx based fantasy platformer where you can switch between 3 characters in order to progress through the levels. Play as an female archer, wizard or knight and use their skills to traverse through traps, skeletons, dungeons and much more! Also connect a controller and play co-op with a friend! Amazing graphics, animation and effects... what else could anyone want?

https://www.gog.com/game/trine_enchanted_edition

Trine is an older game from 2009 and required a few older libraries, but I found they were already available in the "Lib" directory in the game folder. So I just renamed them to the library the game was expecting and it worked. Here is also a post on GOG about how to install the proper libraries:
https://www.gog.com/forum/trine_series/fix_missing_libraries_for_trine_1_2_on_ubuntu_1804_64_bit

Other than that, I was able to play with Keyboard & mouse and my wife was able to play with Amazon...

The world around is very detailed and you will discover many interactive elements to help you find evidence.

With the help of ProtonGE The Occupation Demo ran flawlessly in PlayOnLinux with my GeForce GTX 1060. Of course I still installed DXVK and Media Foundation. Initially I thought it wasn't running at all, but if you are patient, the first black-screen will start loading. I think there may be a bug with Media Foundation, so I wasn't able to see the intro videos... thankfully it did load and played just fine.

I was able to install and run the game with Wine 5.0.2 but upon launching there was no audio in-game. The BIK movies played audio, but not in-game. I still had to install DirectX June 2010 Redistribute for all of the xact, xaudio overrides. Layers Of Fear 2 in PlayOnLinux

After finishing Layers Of Fear 1, I wanted more... more jump scares, more super detailed environments, more psychological fear, more creepy sounds... more of everything! Layers Of Fear 2 does not disappoint!

layersf-28.jpg

Your nightmare begins on an old 1920s cruise ship where there is a film production taking place. Among the ship is all kinds of props and scenery for the film... but what is the film about? Are you an actor? The game quickly becomes very creepy as you re-live the adventures of stowaway children... a young girl and her brother.

The graphics are very detailed and beautiful as expected. Even the water effects are very realistic. You will find yourself exploring some surreal environments that are pretty strange, but compellingly scary. This might actually be a nightmare of a small boys imagination. My GeForce GTX 1060 was able to handle the game nicely. At first the game was crashing because...

Grim Dawn is a huge epic action RPG with a very large linear maps. As if that wasn't big enough... the expansion Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods has more locations with more monsters to slay and more quests to complete.

Continue slaying minions, mini-bosses and epic boss battles and level up your additional skill trees and masteries to equip your character with new weapons and magical skills. The developers have added more factions to side with or eliminate and all kinds of epic environments to slay them in.

Medal Of Honor is a military frontal assault first person shooter based on the battles in World War II. Play as U.S. Army Sergeant John Baker in the front lines of Operation Overlord, Battle of the Bulge and DDay. Warchest includes the original Allied Assault and both expansions:

I never did a guide for Allied Assault because I was never able to run it in Wine until now. This game was developed in 2002 and though the graphics are hard on the eyes, its a pretty fun war game with a lot of action. It displays features and scenarios before its time. The Call of Duty series was inspired by Allied Assault.

The key to playing Allied Assault in Wine is adding the following command for Nvidia video cards:
export __GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700

In PlayOnLinux you have to paste this in the Miscellanous Tab area at the bottom...

In The Surge you awaken in the ruins of a huge corporation with an exoskeleton suite as your advantage. Fight rogue robots and augmented zombies as you learn what happened to the CREO corporation. This is a Dark Souls-ish combat game with the ability to target specific areas of the enemies unarmored body parts. Use combos and dodges to slay clever minions who have similar attacks as yourself.

PlayOnLinux was able to handle The Surge with Wine 5.0 64-bit and DXVK on my GeForce GTX 1060. Loading, saving and keyboard/mouse controls worked without issues as you can see in the video. I warn you, this game is pretty unforgiving as all the enemies re-spawn even when you return to a previous area. There are only checkpoints which save your progress, so you may find yourself dying an clearing out the same areas over and over.

Years ago my wife and I played through Grim Dawn (GOG version) several times. It was a lot of work setting it up to play "bug free" in DirectX 9 only. There were a bunch of workarounds to prevent missing textures, but it worked! Today Wine 5.0 handles everything perfectly with DXVK compatibility. We are playing smoothly and no more graphical artifacts. It may slow down a bit when a lot of monsters are in the screen at the same time, but that is typical of games with a lot of animation.
