    I offer this tender consolation. They are not gone. For the most part these good people went on to reform into most often better groups with a greater knowledge of the music they wanted to create.

    But I have to admit a lot of these songs do seem to have reached a high place, not easy to surpass.

    Interestingly a person who's path and mine crossed briefly many years ago seemed convinced that "Sloopy" referred to a Mexican woman. She was a Mexican didn't like the song at all.

    You make a very valid point. Why didn't I think of that? Shuh, many times over.

    I have no doubt that you can sing it better, after all, who the heck is he, anyway?

    I remember the melody a little differently. Tsk!

    My favorite description of one who can not sing:

    "When I sing it is an act against nature, even the ants run for cover."

    It is in a humorous vain. Humor is all that is left to those of us who cannot sing.":O}

    Definitely refreshing, thank you for finding it. The Native Americans sued the feds for ten years to get an accounting of royalty payments they should have received for the extraction of oil from their properties. Seems that many white men have received very generous payment while the First Americans who own the land have received less than pennies on the dollar.

    The Native Americans asked for 15 billion dollars---which should have been far more, by the way. The overly generous White father finally granted them 3 plus change billion.

    I am so proud to be a European American! Once upon a time someone far more knowledgeable than I told me "The dead Indians don't count."

    Call me sentimental yet I believe they very much do count.
