I remember when this song came out. It was my 3rd mission in Columbia, working interdiction with the DEA in cooperation with the Columbian government.
I know it was written for Viet Nam Vets, but sitting there in a tree on the side of a mountain in the Cordillera Occidental looking over a valley below, watching the sun slowly come over the peaks and burn off the mist (which inevitably created clouds that turned to rain not much later), the lyrics struck a chord with me.
