As there's lyric that says
"Reeling in the years" and is followed by Stowing away the time., at lest that how I hear it.

He may well be singing "stowin' away the time." But to me that makes no sense. Time can not be stowed away. Period. So "stone away the time," which was my motto for many years makes more sense.
