Roller Coaster Tycoon is the first actual 3 dimensional game of the franchise! Released in 2004 it boasts all the building, decorating, designing and peep management of the original games... but in total 3D! You can rotate the camera, zoom in as far as you want, terraform the land, ride the roller coasters and even design your own rides to share with your friends. Featuring themes from The Old West, Pirates, Sci-Fi, haunted and wonderland!
Yes I admit, this is an OLD game! Over 20 years old! I've tested it almost every 5 years and it never ran in Linux before. Of course a few more years pass and it's time to give it a try, but this time I finally got it to run in Proton! I'm really happy to find it runs well and there are only a few bugs in the vanilla version. I have "Soaked" as well, but haven't tried installing the expansion yet. I did try the 1.3 patch and it literally took about an hour to install. These days it is hard to find a legit patch for such an old game. So Vanilla it is!
Unfortunately Proton does not include all proprietary video codec's which are required for this game. All the videos are WMV Windows Media Video. Proton will run the game but you will see these small windows open with no video and just testing lines. The solution is to use Glorious Egroll version of Proton. These versions run include the codec's needed and will allow cutscenes to work in Linux. I had the most success with newer versions based on Proton 11. In Heroic Launcher these GE-Proton versions are available in the Wine Manager.
