I just watched a short of what some call her most demanding performance. Pavarotti was to sing at the Oscars.

But his doctor told him he couldn't, that he absolutely must rest his instrument. This literally minutes before he was to go on live TV.

His good friend was asked to replace him. I imagine they assumed she would sing one of her own better known songs.

She asked only to hear his rehearsal tape...once. Then she said

    "I can do that."

Then in a foreign language, not in her own idiom, without rehearsing at all She sang Pavarotti's signature song flawlessly. (according to Pavarotti.)

"Ladies and Gentlemen allow me to introduce Miss Aretha Franklin."

And yeah, she actually did that!! But hey it was for her friend!

Words alone aren't enough praise, she is one of the very best ever.
