I'm working on an 8950 Dell Box.
It had several things completely new to me. Where to begain...

Attached directly to MB are two drives configured into raid.
    not seen before by me.
There is a setting not seen by me ever before.
It allows one to "wipe" one or all of ones connected drives.

As I made many mistakes working out just how wanted to set up It seemed a good idea to start compleatly over,

So I tried it, what could it hurt right?

After the wipe I expected a drive that was formatted and ready to use.

Was I wrong to expect a usable drive after a "Wipe"
Windows can't see or install to any of my wiped drives. Nor can Mint 21.
In fact the only place any of my drive show uo is in the wipe program in the BIOS. the only thing it can do is wipe them again!
I try everything I can think of Mint reports that my drive has Zero space.

I try everything to bring them back.
After days of effort and deliberation, I fork out 50 bucks for an un wiped drive as a last hope.

I install it and put Mint 21 in my DVD.
and go for he boot and install.

OK this is where things get really weird for me.

Mints boots and offered every one of my wiped drives.. I know I should just go with my new drive, But I can't resist going for the on board RAID.

    And here I am am.
How in the hell does adding on un wiped drive make all the wiped drive visible, useable ???.

Now that I have a useable drive I open "Disks" and all my drives show, in need of a format and partition.

But mint installed to the wiped PCIe raid drives It could not even see before I added the new drive.

How could adding a drive effect the wipped drives?Making them visible to the system and install able???

If you can explain this, tell me as you would a little child.

So that's where I've been and what I've been doing.

    What cha been doing?

I've never messed with BIOS RAID, though I have worked with both LVM and MADM.

I believe you are dealing with Intel's on-board RAID and Dell's weird BIOS. I have no experience with those either, so I"m afraid I'm not much help to you.

every thing seems ok, except no sound. I have spare drives So I'm going to install Mint 2.0 and see if I still get sound.
