First Linux Game

Well, excuuuuuse Meee! :p
Guess I'm old school with my 1680x1050 dual LCD screen :(

Well no wonder PlayOnLinux and Wine have a problem with your 4K screens. For the most part they are great for older Direct X 9 games which are mostly older games. Some day I'll have enough money to invest in higher resolution screens, but for now I'm sticking with games that run with what I got.

Have you posted on the PlayOnLinux forum?

I did a while back, and the basic response was "yeah, we are redesigning PlayOnLinux 5 to deal with that better, in the mean time, soz!"

I'm a programmer. Being able to see a lot of information at one time is very important to me when working on code. How people using spreadsheets and doing data analysis get by with 1680 or smaller in this day and age is quite beyond me.

Maybe it's just the way I process information, I dunno.

Good call, I didn't even think of that. I was trying to wonder why you were playing games at 2K
As long as your video card can handle it... otherwise you can use this command in Debian/Ubuntu/Mint in the PlayOnLinux Arguments so when the game launches it will reset your resolution:
xrandr -s 1920x1080

Chris, what are the physical within-the-bezel dimensions for 3840x2160?

Is that a 21:9 ratio? I've been looking at a 2560x1080 for this tiling WM. Might have to re-think my desk space, though, for the monster you're talking about.

I bought it back in July of '14, and IIRC it was around $250, but the one I bought was open-box, so I got a deal on it. I see Amazon has the newer model for $500.

IMO, this monitor has a beautiful picture, and I think it is still as bright as the day I bought it. I use it with the Display Port cable, not HDMI (IIRC, the resolution is limited due to bit-rate constraints on HDMI).

I guess in 3rd world countries like Boomams basement...
I"M STILL LIVING THE DREAM! ":"O}

Well, most of my computers and hardware is getting old. I don't mind lower resolutions, and honestly some games run better on it.

I play all games!
Except Real-Time Strategy, Sports and turn-based RPG's...
Other than those, I play all games ;)

Your place is right here with Linux gamers!
What game are you currently playing?

Your going to be so disappointed! ":O}
I have left over recurring nerve pain in my elbows, from my encounter with Zosters that make finger movements rather painful....nothing to do but wait for it to pass...and it will pass just as it will return...

Are you able to play any games when the pain passes?

A little, if I try to do to much it brings it on, so it's a balancing act I seem to be losing. I have six new (old) PS3 games I got for 35 bucks that I've been waiting to play for several months now and my pain is worse than ever.

I'll be talking to my Doctor (when he can fit me in) about getting some pain relief. What he had me on was completely useless.
At 68, these things are to be expected and not easily if at all avoided.

Sorry Boo, I wish I could tell you you'll be different...and you might be... at least that's what we tell ourselves at 35...LOL

I feel for ya man!
I couldn't imagine having constant chronic hand pain... I use my hands for everything!

  • Drums
  • Computers
  • Games
  • Drawing
  • Typing
  • Smacking my wife's butt

hahahahaha Booman!!!! "Smacking my wife's butt"..... Well my husband does that too... lol
Anyway my first Linux Native Game was Plainshift - Really liked it -

I've heard of Plainshift, but never played it.
