    qutebrowser

I've been a long time Firefox user, but certain recent news have made me less than enthusiastic about the future of Firefox. In particular the news that Mozilla's top exec pay has increased by 400% while usage has declined, and they have fired roughly 250 employees. Mozilla's primary source of...

    Linux on Credit Card Machine

MINIX is an old Unix-like operating system which was actually one of Linus Torvald's inspirations for creating Linux, and his first work on Linux was being done on MINIX. As far as I know, there is no relation between Intel and MINIX. It was originally created under a proprietary license, but is...

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT crashes/green screen

Great to hear that you found something that works for you! I'll definitely keep this in mind if I experience the problem again. For some reason, I have not had this happen for several weeks now. I'm also still playing the games that used to cause the green screen crash, but now everything seems...

    Microsoft Edge for Linux?

That's in interesting take on it, and knowing Windows I would not at all be surprised if there is an idea like this behind it. I am still struggling to understand the point of the whole WSL thing, except that MS might be trying to pull some Linux users to Windows. Getting people used to having...

    Freedom Fighters (Help running)

"Verify files" only appear if the installer includes multiple files. For games that have only a single file for installs, there is no option to verify files. According to WineHQ I don't see anything about any specific libraries required. Since I don't own the game myself I can't test it out...

    Microsoft Edge for Linux?

Seems like the idea is that developers can test their websites in Edge without having to boot Windows. That is actually a good idea. I honestly can't imagine anyone wanting to use Edge on Linux for any other reason.

Resident Evil 2 Remake with GE Proton

As amazing as Steam's Proton is, there are some games it can't run yet. One of those games is Resident Evil 2 Remake. However, by using a modified version of Proton, I was able to run it perfectly with amazing performance. Here's a few screenshots I'm using the modified version of...

    Uplay internet connection

Your GPU is very old, and from my quick search right now, it simply does not support vulkan. The newer AMDGPU driver does not support your card, so you must either use the open source ATI driver (which I assume is the default on Mint), or switch to the proprietary Catalyst driver, which has...

    Uplay internet connection

Vulkan comes by default in newer drivers, and you probably only need some vulkan loader library installed. I don't know about Ubuntu/Mint, but installing Steam on Arch will automatically pull in the vulkan loader libraries, as long as it is installed with the package manager.

    Uplay internet connection

Update: So my network issues were unrelated to wine and had to do with me changing network software. Apparently, the game clients required me to specifically enable MulticastDNS, so I learned something new. I got Uplay working, could log in and installed Assassins Creed Brotherhood and launched...

    Uplay internet connection

I agree that Steam's Proton is amazing. My own testing here will actually take more time than expected, I suddenly realized that I have network issues with battle.net as well, but other games work fine so it seems to be an issue with the clients. I may need to roll back to an earlier wine...

    Uplay internet connection

What Wine version are you using? I don't have it installed at the moment, but I do recall being able to use uplay without needing to fiddle around too much, just ensure you use one of the newer wine versions, and preferably wine-staging. If you are not in a rush I can test it out this weekend...

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT crashes/green screen

Thanks for the help, although I don't seem to have the option to set that in my bios. I am also not familiar with any software for changing gpu settings for AMD cards. It does not happen often these days, actually in the last 3-4 weeks or so it has only been Starcraft 2 that triggered it, and...

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT crashes/green screen

Yeah at the moment I'm just hoping that this will be fixed with a newer driver eventually. And there are no logs at all, the system really hard crashes. Sometimes I left it on for 10 minutes in this state, hoping that the log would still get written to the hard drive, but no. The system log...

Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Cinnamon released!

She was on Windows before she married me and I showed her the wonders of Linux, she's still upset about that. Well not really, but I did give her an Arch system, which she had no idea how to manage herself. She was on the Gnome desktop, which she was okay with, but she is much happier with...

Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Cinnamon released!

My wife is on Mint 20 Cinnamon edition. She was actually using Arch on her system, but since she is most definitely not a Linux enthusiast, I had to handle all system maintenance and updates. As much as I love to tinker with and maintain my own system, it became a bit of a chore to manage her...

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT crashes/green screen

Disabling DPM was not a solution, I just had another one of those green screens while playing War for the Overworld. Temperatures are usually around 70 degrees C in this game, which is far from overheating. I have a 1200W Corsair power supply, so I also doubt it would be a power issue. Perhaps I...

Ouch! Does this guy know what he's talking about?

My three favorite Star Trek series is TNG, DS9, and Voyager, in that order. I have everything Star Trek on DVD, except for the two new series, Discovery and Picard, and I still have not seen any episodes of them. I am very excited about the Picard series as I have seen that it includes...
