    eSports in the Olympics?

It's no different to darts, which as far as I'm concerned as something to do between pints at the pub. Fans of chucking weighted needles around while drunk have, however, petitioned the IOC to get darts added to the list. eSports probably require somewhat greater skill, with similar physical...

    Something new and horrible

For EU citizens, the lucky souls, the EU will no doubt look very closely at this move by the FBI, and how it fits in with the GDPR and their own jurisprudence. Expect to see FB and friends back in court until they come up with a plan to keep EU data separate. For we unfortunate...

    Mars verses anstroid belt.

No matter what we do, we will not manage to exterminate all life on Earth, even if we manage to wreck the biosphere that we need to keep humans alive. We might wipe out many species of plant, animal and insect, but there are plenty of other species that do very well out of us, and others that...

    Mars verses anstroid belt.

I don't disagree. Not completely. I think you're just a few centuries ahead of your time. First thing to remember is that space is vast. And empty. The "asteroid belt" is not a crowded region of rocks bumping into each other, like in the cartoons and low-budget movies, but, well, empty. With a...

    Debian 10 Packaged with Cinnamon

I dunno, half-built distro with really good documentation? I often find if I have a problem, there's an Arch wiki for it...

    Debian 10 Packaged with Cinnamon

It's alright... once we're done scorching it to ashes, you can have it. ... we'll be on to Mars by then :P

    Debian 10 Packaged with Cinnamon

It's rare to see "Debian" and "ease-of-use" written in the same sentence ;) Debian is a very well though out distribution, intended to cover a broad cross-section of needs, from server through to desktop. You can have a superb Debian desktop... but, you won't be expecting the installer to do...

    Install Linux

On the basis that during our efforts, it didn't work with either the AVR plugged in, or the computer plugged in directly, I'm gonna go with "doesn't work" being the final answer...

    Install Linux

No, I'd suggested that because I'd assumed that your Roku wasn't getting 4K for the same reason that your computer wasn't - which is that the AVR doesn't pass correct EDIDs to video sources. The Zerone box only provides a valid EDID - it does not impact HDCP - High Definition Content Protection...

    Install Linux

Not really, no - because your HDMI-2 ARC connector's broken :( On your TV, only HDMI-1 and HDMI-2 are really 4K capable, of which, only HDMI-1 is working. If all had been working well, you could've put an HDMI splitter onto HDMI-1 to receive all your gadgets, then the TV would've controlled the...

Actually... D~, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I did some more reading into your Denon AVR-S500BT - the S500BT is NOT HDCP2.2-compliant. No matter what we do, your Roku will not display 4K via the Denon unit. Your TV is HDCP2.2-compliant, however. HDCP2.2-compliance was only introduced...

Perfect! Those files check out OK, so all done where your computer's concerned. Which version of Roku do you have, by the way?

    Debian 10 Packaged with Cinnamon

Debian feeds Ubuntu. Ubuntu adds their usability enhancements. Mint fixes Ubuntu's bugs and thus makes a "just works" distro, a release out of date.

Do this as your normal user, no need for root permissions. (DON'T sudo these if they go wrong to ensure you can't accidentally delete anything): cd ~ mkdir vidbackup cd vidbackup cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf ~/vidbackup/ cp /etc/X11/edid.bin ~/vidbackup/ cd ~ tar czf vidbackup.tar.gz vidbackup Once...

    Install Linux

Yes. Take a copy of /etc/X11/edid.bin and /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Better yet, upload /etc/X11/edid.bin onto here. That way if you ever do need to reinstall, I can give you instructions to get back to where you are today very quickly, as we've now identified the problem and don't need to go through...

    Install Linux

D~, I set out to get your computer to talk to your TV through the AVR at a resolution of 4K@60Hz on updated drivers, and that is what I've done. Your Roku is a closed hardware device and there's nothing much that I can do personally to make it behave properly. I think at this point I should...

    Install Linux

Well, I changed the product. My understanding is you hook it up in between the Roku and the AVR, set the daisy when to provide a 4K EDID and it will provide one instead of trying to negotiate resolution with the avr.

Excellent! For your Roku through the AVR, you'll need something like this EDIT: https://www.amazon.com/Zerone-Feeader-Manager-Emulator-Distance/dp/B07MZ69D1H/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=hdmi+4k+edid+emulator&qid=1564001405&s=gateway&sr=8-8
