Hi, I'm new. I have a question: How to Fix 'Failed to Detect and Mount CD-ROM' Problem When installing Kali Linux? Anyone can help me? Thanks
Are you using a CD ROM live Disk to run and install Kali Linux? I recommend using a Flash Drive instead. Install Kali on a flash drive, then run it as Live and do the installation
Just if you're using a Windows-based utility (e.g. Rufus) to make the bootable flash drive, then make sure you specify dd mode, as "hybrid" doesn't work.
I have a serious question about installing Mint Cinnamon 19.1. It says that I'm running Cinnamon in "compatibility mode." Not the exact quote, but during installation it refuses to accept it's own bullt-in driver for my GeForce video card. Going to Nvidia doesn't help, all of their suggested updates for its driver refuse to install, or more accurately refuse to provide a proper "grasp" on the drivers.
What video card do you have? I've seen this before and after a few reboots it stopped saying "Compatibility Mode" Did you already install all of the updates available?
It's not exactly "compatibility mode" but something that means the same thing-I think. Daniel says I have a bad installation and I don't doubt that one bit. I have to wait for a friend to return my 19.1 disc. He was going to try and install it himself to see if he got better results. The Mint Cinnamon 19.1 installation I'm dealing with is truly apita. The browser window doesn't fit the screen and I've found NO way to adjust the screen's resolution. Thank you for your help!
Hmm, I did a fresh install of Mint 19 64-bit last year and haven't upgraded yet... Maybe I'll wait for Mint 19.2
Good luck! Last night I just upgraded a Mint 18.3 to Mint 19 and when it rebooted I got the "Compatibility Mode" warning. I'll let you know how it works out...
Thank you booman! I can't install the driver for my GeForce. Let's hope that the re installation makes that easy.
So far the error went away after I installed updates, then installed Nvidia 340 proprietary drivers. Not sure why the previous Mint 18.3 driver installation didn't migrate, but now it seems to be working... I think. Still need to run a few games to make sure. Another problem I'm having is when I boot this computer X will crash, but then the login page appears and everything seems fine. It errors something about MDM. The instructions I followed for upgrading Mint 18.3 to Mint 19 required installing "lightmdm" not sure why, but I went ahead and did it. Maybe I have to set LightMDM as the default instead of MDM? I'm not even sure how to do that.
After I set the boot order to boot from the DVD player first Mint Cinnamon 19.1 won't boot from the installation disk. Oh well, better try again.
Kinda difficult to get the installation disc to boot. Somehow it booted. The installation went smoothly and I see none of the horrible desktop I saw the last time. So far so good. Thank you for your help booman
Especially because Chrome was already installed. Wish I didn't have to jump through hoops to add it to the menu of browsers. I know, the hassle was good for me.
Wait, how was Chrome already installed? I always have to go and download it from here: https://www.google.com/chrome/ Normally it will have Ubuntu 64-bit download
Thank you for your assistance in re-installing Mint 19.1 Candidly, I don't know how Chrome was already installed. I tried to install it using Terminal commands perhaps five times. Maybe it worked one time but it didn't want to tell me so? Whatever, I'm glad that I can use it! The automagic Firefox install isses me offpay. Firefox has worsened its behavior to the point that I very much dislike it. Putting links to stuff I never visited all over the page, like automagicly? By reading former browser use that wasn't even done in this install of Mint Cinnamon 19.1? Sucks, they can bite me!
I bought the OS for cheap from can't recall online. It's one of those LOVELY blue "home made" DVD-ROM's that don't last worth a hoot. Next time I'll chance it and order it on a thumb drive. I stopped remembering how to burn your own installable disk ages ago. I forget FAR more than I remember about PC's. Beauty. This installation of Mint Cinnamon 19.1 works well. I let the installation process do what it wanted even though it made perfect sense to ask for some things like drivers to be installed along the way. Suggestion, don't choose anything but default when installing this OS!
Automagically? Ha Ha! Making up words! I installed Mint 19.0 recently on a Shuttle DX30 and I still had to install Chrome manually. I think even Chromium needs to be installed manually as well. Even on my Raspberry Pi... I'm going to wait for Mint 19.2 before I upgrade my computers, heard some bad stuff about 19.1 Thumb Drive (Flash Drive) is super easy in Mint... that is.. if you are already using Mint. Download Mint .ISO Plug in Thumb Drive Right-Click ISO Select "Make bootable image" Select Drive Click OK Wait Close Reboot Boot from Thumb Drive on any computer Run Live Linux or Install Linux
