    Optimization

    Experiment with these settings to get the best experience:
    fullscreen=false
    fulldouble=false
    fullresolution=1600x1200
    windowresolution=1600x1200
    output=opengl
    autolock=true
    sensitivity=100
    waitonerror=true
    priority=higher,normal
    mapperfile=mapper-0.74.map
    usescancodes=true

    frameskip=0
    aspect=true
    scaler=normal2x

    Conclusion:
    Daggerfall vanilla ran perfectly in DOSbox. To be honest the installation took me at least 10 tries to get it right. DOS installing is very confusing on a modern day computer. I also experimented with the conf setting so I could get Daggerfall to match my widescreen resolution. I'm looking forward to Daggerfall XL making installation and graphical improvements when its released.
    Note: When launching Daggerfall the first time, you might need to use Ctrl+F10 to allow mouse control.

    Excellent guide for very good old classic

    :)
  2. booman
    Not to mention "Free Classic"
    I found there are a bunch of fixes and mods to improve the game and there is a Daggerfallsetup.exe that installs everything, but it didn't work for me in PlayOnLinux.
    I think it bundles DOSbox as well, but running DOSbox in PlayOnLinux/Wine doesn't work. Never has.
    So I wonder if there is an easy way to apply some of these fixes/mods to the Linux DOSbox?

    Hey man. Great guide for a noob like me. However, after creating the desktop launcher and attempting to open it, I can't get past the titlescreen. Clicking within the box does nothing. It just sits there. Retracing my steps through your guide doesn't leave me thinking I missed something, but I think it's acting as though it needs the physical CDrom. Any ideas? I would have contacted you through your profile but I just signed up on this site and it won't let me even look at your profile. Thanks in advance, and pleeeease help. I really want to give this game a go!

    Welcome to the forum!
    I had a lot of problems getting the game to run properly.
    What distro are you running?
    make sure you have 32-bit libraries installed as well.
  5. nivradnoslen
    I figured it out. Embarrassingly all I needed to do was hit cntrl-f10 to make the window grab the mouse. Thanks for replying, and hey, this means your guide works like a charm.
  6. booman
    oh, so the game was working, but no mouse control. Good to know. I'll add the note to my guide. Thanks

    No problem. It took me 10 tries to get it running. Its been a while since I've played Daggerfall in Linux, but its nice to see the guide still works.
    Have fun!

    Has someone already tried installing DaggerfallSetup (which includes many many fixes) through playonlinux yet and successfully play the game?

    Yeah, found that too. Sounds awesome! But it still needs some work for a full Daggerfall experience.
    DaggerfallSetup is the go-to way of playing as far es people say because vanilla Daggerfall is full of bugs and within this setup there are many fixes to improve the experience.
    You can download it from the official source: https://wiwiki.wiwiland.net/index.php?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN
  13. booman
    Awesome! It says runs on modern systems and includes DOSBox like some of those GOG Linux games.
    I may have to do another guide.
    I like leaving this one up because vanilla installations are always important to hard-core gamers.
  14. Marlhin
    It would be great seeing another beautiful guide of yours regarding DaggerfallSetup! Unfortunately, I don't have that much time to mess around with playonlinux because I am in the middle of my thesis. Tried it a few times but always got some errors but at least they seem to be fixable!
  15. booman
    I'll put it on my "To Do" list, but its getting pretty big.
  16. The Emperor
    I keep getting "Directory does not exist"
  17. booman
    Welcome "The Emperor"!
    What part of the guide are you getting "Directory does not exist"?
  18. aksum
    Hi, thanks for the guide. After typing "fall z.fcg", I got the following error message: ERR: path not specified
    ERR: map file not speciefied
    There are configuration error(s).
