    Sure, that's fine. Just want to say that I don't think I'm smart enough to be qualified as talented.

    Last update from scratch. Does this mean that a HDD wipe followed by the entire installation of Mint 18 is mandatory?

    Nope!
    It means you will be asked to wait until next month. Next month the Mint team will release upgrade institutions from Mint 17.3 to Mint 18

    The instructions last time amounted to"say Please". it was about that easy.

    But if your some kind of OS nut,
    (if only at very superficial levels...)
    Like me. You can download and install Mint 18 this very minute. This choice allows....ok it makes you, install Mint 18 from scratch.
    But hey, you'd want to do that anyway right? As a sigh of respect or perhaps a sigh of an unbalanced mind!

    Both are fine things to have! ":O}

    I leave as the Mint team has left this thrilling choice to your every hand.":O}

    Thank you for cluing me in Dan!
    You don't know how happy I am to discover that Mint 17.3 will "automatically" update itself to Mint 18 if I simply wait for that event. Yaaaaaaay!! I'm going to be patient and not demand instant update gratification. Saying "please" won't diminish my expectations and it won't at all wound my pride. Yaay!

    Oooo, I didn't realize they would provide an upgrade process from 17.3 to 18
    I still might do an install from-scratch just to clean up the hard drive.
    Just like Windows, Linux can leave a lot of lingering files around...

    By the way, sometimes the talent we have is just being patient enough to try something new in Linux or to trial-n-error for hours just to get one game running. Patience can be a gift.
    My two cents

    Oh yes I do! LOL
    I remember early days when you'd just get things in order, then the new upgrade comes out you you feel liker your starting all over again... But really, your not...a little bit more sticks with you each time... For me setting up mt desktop has become a meditation... This will take a while, but why rush though to your first date with Sara!?
    Enjoy 17.3! ":O}

    From here on forward, all new Mint versions will be will upgrade previous versions.
    So if you choose to sit on say Mint 18 and let 19 and 20 just go on by, then decide to install Mint 21...You just hit the upgrade button in System updates and it takes you there...The disk and the USB drives will be stickily for noobs! Oh and the guys I was telling you about that just like setting up their desktop! ":O}

    How cool is that!
