Are you crazy!? I didn't choose this face! "They" make me wear it to hide my own face which I confess I maybe might have stolen from Quasimodo, He wasn't using it and it's way better than the face I stoled from the Jabberwalkie. Jebber wasn't using his either thought it better to go faceless. I consider the face i have now a public service. A reminder that when stealing a face that you will have to look at that face every morning. And people will have to struggle to find something nice about how good you look. And yes Patti's face needs no improvement. Making her look better would only make me look worse! Patti thanks you for you gracious complement. Me as I have been forced to explain, not so much!!":O}
Mr Hicks reminded me of one long forgotten who led a big band and sang this song to an entirely grown up audience. Who seem as delighted as children to hear it. I was only very young maybe 7or 8, but I did my very best to understand what he was singing...a fools errand!":O} I remember really liking this man with a huge smile. Held a small pointed baton which he use to play his orchestra like puppets on a string, he would point and a whole section of his band would come alive! They seemed to really like getting a turn to play for the puppet master. I think my young thoughts may have been influenced by my favorite TV show at the time Howdy Doddy. He didn't have a band but he did have a man on his strings.
The radio play this so much everyone got tired of it, but there was a reason for it. It is simple perfection in singer and song.
That was probably the second or third time I saw him, he was leaving just as we were getting here.":O}
Adding. I am surprised by this tune. The bloody oar and under the surface woman's body really make me wonder if this song is biographical. If so---Nora, there are depths to you that don't please me. How human can you get? Hold on, it can't be taken from her true life, that's become obvious. I wonder if anyone at her concerts ever cry out for this song?
I had no idea that he was a member of "The Charlatans," a semi legendary band who were from Nevada, afaik. He certainly went against the grain of Bay Area popular music of the time.
Another reason I love "The Blues Brothers" movie. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't recognize him immediately upon his first appearance in the film.
I still maintain that if you listen to it three times you will walk around with Miriam in your heads. Which isn't so bad as one might think.
Damn! It's one thing to sing scat solo, But Hicks's back up are singing the same non words...this must have taken a bit of rehearsal. I'd say it was worth the effort
There were several greats that I failed to recognize in that movie. I never knew most of them by sight, So I had to sorta piece it together or, alas, live in ignorance.
Sorry George, the best I can do is to make sure they play for me and hope for the best. I hate missing out to!":O}
I had to post at lest one of her songs...I've had a love/hate relationship with her music since I was 10. On the one hand she's probability the best of what I call the sob sisters. She never met a heart break she didn't want to sing about. Taken as a whole she drives me nuts. But there are songs that despite all my defensive complaints and 50 years, I still listen to.
