Since it seems EA's Origin is having monthly Free Game Giveaways, there should be a thread on them, with reminders. Technically, I'm not even sure it is monthly, but it seems that way.

*December 2015: Jade Empire Special Edition
*October? November? 2015: Red Alert 2 (EXPIRED)

At the moment, I can't seem to get Origin working properly, but I'm hoping the Order History that appears after clicking on the button to download it on my Origin website account is enough to download it later when Origin works. :/

I have successfully run Origin in PlayOnLinux and plan to post a guide for Mass Effect 3
Here are some critical steps for launching, updating and logging into Origin:
    1. Download OriginSetup.exe: http://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe
    2. Do a manual installation
    3. Wine 1.7.55-staging
    4. Install these Packages: corefonts, d3dx9, tahoma, vcrun2005, vcrun2008, vcrun2010, vcrun2012
    5. Install OriginSetup.exe
    6. After license agreement, Origin will crash
    7. Alt+Tab to PlayOnLinux
    8. Configure
    9. Wine Tab
    10. Kill Processes
    11. Go to Origin directory: ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/origin/drive_c/Program Files/
    12. Enable full write & create permissions on everything in the directory
    13. Rename igoproxy.exe to igoproxy-old.exe
    14. Rename igoproxy64.exe to igoproxy64-old.exe
    15. Launch Origin
    16. Login
    17. Disable In Game Overlay (Origin Settings)
    18. Download game
Mass Effect 3 crashed after the game fully installed, but once launching again it ran fine. I told Origin to remember my password and created a shortcut to MassEffect3.exe and was able to run the game.

Try these steps with your game as well to see if it works for you.
