First of all, I just have to say that where I used to live I didn't have access to high speed internet, and speed seemed to vary quite a bit. I was renting in a rather old house and the house owner had not set up proper internet availability. I had to make do with with speeds varying between 2-4 Mpbs. If a Steam download could reach 600 kb/s, that was a big deal.

Now in my new apartment, I have a 50 Mbps line. Steam downloads average on 5,5 mb/s. This was a completely new experience for me.

I realize this may sound odd to people used to high speed internet, but for me it was a brand new experience. I will probably be downloading large files just to watch the speed :p
 
I'm paying $60/month right now for 12 Mbps, which was only recently made available; prior to that I had 6 Mbps.
 
Not exactly sure how prices compare. I'm paying 450 NOK per month for my 50 Mbps line, which according to the online currency conversion site xe.com equals about 75 USD. But my prices are also a bit lower than normal since I live in an apartment building, every apartment owner here get a discount.

One good thing about living here in Thailand is the providers are a bit cheaper than in other countries.

I pay around $100/mo for 100Mbps service, and actually get about 75-80 down on most days, 10 up. Today is a good day, as you see in the screenshot. The service isn't bad, but it is subject to *government intervention* sometimes [seems like the bandwidth can get siphoned off. Why, IDK.] The last several weeks have been a bit dodgy bandwidth-wise since the military coup, but it seems like this weekend things have sped up a bit. I suspect it will go back to normal speed now that things have calmed down.

I pay the lowest tier for cox and its about $50 for 6Mbps
I still can't believe $10 more dollars a month would double this?!!!

What sucks is that my bill fluctuates, I'm not sure why, but I'll pay $49 one month and then $55 the next.
Why is that?

I downloaded World of Tanks: 7.6 Gigs and took about 2 an a half hours.
Totally sucks! This is why I back up all of my games from Steam and GOG because my internet is just too slow to download them again.
 
That was me about 2 months ago; $55 for 6 Mbps DSL. I was on the ATT U-Verse website and saw that they were offering 12 Mbps DSL in my area for $60. I was like "What the heck, they are already into me for $55/month".

I can justify the cost in my case because my home connection is also my work connection. If it weren't for that, I sure wouldn't willingly pay it.
 
If I had the extra $10 a month I wouldn't mind paying $60 for 12Mbps

Century Link is just as bad. They claim $40 for 12 Mbps but its DSL and isn't quite as reliable as Cox cable.
 
Here in "rural" Isle of Wight (UK), I'm paying $71 for an 76/19Mbps DSL connection, and pretty much seeing that throughput too. Like Gizmo, if it wasn't for the fact that this connection doubles up for home and work, I wouldn't pay that much. However, it's pretty nice when you need to sync large amounts of code!
 
I forgot to mention earlier that upload is of course just 10 Mbps. However, my 50/10 line have so far not had any problems with speed. I have steady speed and it does not seem to deviate at all, which is pretty good.

The 100/10 line that is also available here costs 550 NOK, which is about 91 USD per month, which was starting to get too much for me. The slowest available here is 25/5, for the price of 58 USD per month.

Interesting to see how prices compare with other countries. Personally, I would not consider the slower line, even though it is just for private use for now. I am seeing stable high speeds while using wireless connection now. I used to have issues with my wireless, and thought it was just because my wireless network card didn't have good drivers yet. I am using the Broadcom STA proprietary driver, no open source driver for my card yet. But now I have no issues like I used to have. So that was probably related to using a low quality router.

No problem. Let me know when next you have time, since I have vacation now the next four weeks I'll actually have a lot of free time.
 
Thats basically what I have, but sometimes it seems faster.

I can't imagine downloading Rage - 21 Gigs :(

This is exactly why I have so many "retail" guides on our site. Because there are still a lot of people with slower internet and its as simple as buying the game on Amazon, shipping it and then installing.
 
That's changing though, as more and more games go with the 'digital only' model.

It's not so bad. If I set a game to start download at night and when I go to work it's mostly done by morning, or when I get home. Still, would prefer something like 50 mbit/10 mbit. :)
 
After living with the connection I used to have, this is a dream. Since I prefer digital versions of games, specifically GOG, I could never play a game the same day I bought it. I'd have to put it on download and hopefully have it ready after work the next day. I could never go back now.
 
I'm saying more and more people won't even have the OPTION of having a retail collection. Once they stop paying their monthly subscription fee, they won't have their game any more.
