You just gotta know I'm waiting with extreme attention! ":O} If it works with Crysis it may work with Crysis 2 and 3!
We'll see, I'm already assuming it isn't going to work. There were some responses on WineHQ about the patch not really fixing the memory leak. It apparently works but can make games really slow.
Here is a screenshot proving that I actually got this far... Parachuting out of the plane, then CRASH!
Chances they never will because this suggested patch can cause other issues. Its more of a dev problem with CryEngine. And they will never fix it for Linux. So this is our only hope. So far I got a bunch of missing development libraries for compiling. If I don't have them, certain things won't work like OpenGL in my patched Wine. So I'm waiting on PlayOnLinux forum to help me with the missing libraries. I can also request PlayOnLinux Dev's to compile this patch in Wine for me, but I wanted to make sure it actually worked.
IT WORKS!!! I actually got past the crash with Wine 1.4-rc5-d3d-doublebuffer Lots of artifacts, but I'm actually playing
It's sucking you in! Remember I played around 1/3 of Crysis 2, crashing my way forward bit by bit like a man walking against a hurricane! .... But if you enjoy it, go for it! ":O}
Yes I remember... oh the drama! I expect as much too... I'll be having fun, immersed in the jungle, killing mercenaries and then all of a sudden... Crash. we'll see. I'm not so happy using Wine 1.4, but if it works, it works. I still might request a newer version of Wine with the double-buffer patch applied.
so far running Really good with Wine 1.4-d3d_doublebuffer version I'll keep testing each day to be sure its running perfectly. Screen Resolution: 1680x1050 Video settings: all on High
I played Crysis for an hour this morning. Pretty darn fun! Some feint ghosting and a strange symptom: No shadows. All the objects have shading, but don't cast shadows. Otherwise, it plays pretty smoothly. Will continue testing and may look into the shadows problem.
I installed the Crysis update patch and it doesn't seem to make any difference so far. Played for another hour and didn't have any problems. I'm marking Crysis as a success and have started a Guide.
Absolutely! I'm going to keep messing around and see if I can get the shadows to come back. I have seen other games with shadow issues, so its not uncommon. When you see my new screenshots, everything still looks quite beautiful! Games like these where really require PlayOnLinux. They compile patched versions of Wine just for specific errors in a specific game. Wine alone won't do this for you. Yet another reason PlayOnLinux is above the rest
