well i got that error with latest proton as well weird.
I tired again with newer version of wine-staging-10-8-tkg and it started! very odd. but it still freezes for me.
I think my motherboard is bad. i did some troubleshooting and i had new ram i bought new on ebay. 1866 ddr3 ram. i got 32kit for $40. I tested 2 ram sticks in both slots and my pc did not like it. It kept restarted over and over again. this was in both slots to i tried. So now i'm almost certain either motherboard or CPU is bad. My money is motherboard i had issues with this thing but not to this extreme

Before you start replacing anything considers a few things...
1. Is Linux unstable as well? Crashing, freezing, running slower than normal
2. Are your other games having issues in Wine/Proton as well?
3. Run MemTest from a flash drive to test the RAM. Most Distros have it built-into the image you install from a flash drive.
I've rarely had a motherboard or CPU die on me. Even a faulty power supply can cause issues. Memory is likely the problem or the hard drive. Are you using Solid State Drive or Hard Drive (spindle)?
I know you did a fresh install, so if you are experiencing the same issues it could be the hardware.
Also be sure you have all the dependencies installed too:
- All Distro Updates
- 32-bit Libraries (ia32-libs-multiarch)
- Install a stable Nvidia driver
- Install older Nvidia driver to test
- Install Vulkan drivers (should come with Nvidia at this point)

I did do memtest86 on the one ram stick and it was fine. I use AMD GPU Now the one in my system is rx 580 8gb special edition blue one. This motherboard i had issues with. if you look it up people will even say it has faulty uefi on it. back in the day AsRock sucked. janky. now i think there fine new motherboards. I only play wow mostly now not even sure what other game to test compares to wow? that's good idea i should test another game
Yeah, let me know if any other games run. There are a bunch of free games you can test with Wine or Proton

I got wow to work in CachyOS Arch based. But had to disable all addons or else my pc will freeze. So i completed the trading post for May now. But Lost everything on all my toons in there mailbox for gold making. 
now i have to farm all that stuff again and some stuff i wont be able to get back,

Nothing to do with Proton/Wine/Heroic. It only stay in your mailbox for like 30days. Not able log in for longer.
