    Uplay Install/Setup

    Unfortunately Uplay is also required to play Assassin's Creed III
    It will have several problems during the update/install process

    Note: There is a chance it will refuse to launch or render properly and you will have to uninstal/re-install Uplay again.

    Uplay will begin updating to the newest version
    assassins_creedIII35.png

    Enter your Uplay credentials
    Failed Login
    You will receive a "Ubisoft service is not available" error even if your credentials are correct
    assassins_creedIII36.png

    Important!!!
    Make sure to enter your credentials and check "Remember me"

    Click the Gear for Settings
    Uncheck all settings
    Click Save
    Close Uplay

    assassins_creedIII50.png

    Keep "Run Uplay" checked
    Click Finish
    assassins_creedIII51.png

    Uplay will now run in Windows XP and everything "should" render properly.
    I've seen problems with missing fonts and images depending on the version of Windows set in Wine Configuration. As long as you checked "Remember me" in the initial Uplay launch... it will still run Assassin's Creed III.

    Go to Uplay Settings
    Uncheck EVERYTHING
    assassins_creedIII56.png

    Go to Games
    Click Assassin's Creed III
    Click Play
    assassins_creedIII57.png

    OR

    Go back to Steam and click play
    assassins_creedIII52.png

    Optimization

    There are two ways to adjust Video settings in Assassin's Creed III
    First is in-game

    Click Options
    assassins_creedIII53.png

    Click Graphics
    assassins_creedIII54.png

    Adjust:
    • Resolution
    • Environment Quality
    • Texture Quality
    • Anti-Aliasing Quality
    • Shadow Quality
    • Click back to apply

    Important!!!
    Do not set anything to High. This will crash the game upon launch

    The other is editing Assassin3.ini in the Assassin's Creed III folder in your Documents.
    This method is preferred as you have more options.

    Open Assassin3.ini with TextEditor
    For best performance adjust to match these settings:
    Code:
    [Graphics_DX11]
    AdapterVendorID=4318
    AdapterDeviceID=7171
    MonitorDesc=MONITOR\Default_Monitor\{4D36E96E-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000
    DisplayWidth=1920
    DisplayHeight=1080
    RefreshRate=0
    MultiSampleType=0
    VSync=0
    EnvironmentQuality=0
    TextureQuality=0
    ShadowQuality=0
    DisableHairAniso=0
    ReflectionQuality=0
    CharacterQuality=0
    PostFX=0
    NVidia3D=1
    Important!!!
    Be sure VSync is set to 0

    Note: If you make in-game video changes it will over-write this file and undo our changes. Make this file "read-only" to prevent further changes.

    Conclusion:
    Unfortunately even with my GTX 1060 there is some lag in large areas like Boston. I found that you can angle the camera downward to gain some FPS, specially if you are being chased by Red Coats. Cut-scenes can have some synchronizing issues as well. The game is totally playable if you have some serious hardware and can tolerate a big of lag.
