I listened to the Cat Stevens cuts, but I don't think your referring to that?

As always, God is telling us that we are the dominant creature and we get to bully the rest of his animals as we see fit. Some "people" actually believe that. Why ask Massa Trump, he'll set you straight.

Amazing, about one minute into the song the horns made me feel drunk. I know, it's a personal problem.

It is a GREAT song. And a great improvement over "Gloria." I think "Gloria" was his last song made in Ireland but I'm not sure about this.

You really should listen to the interview in its entirety, it's extremely interesting how the idea to remake the album came about. It isn't just re-mastered, these are all-new versions of the original songs.

I haven't listened to his alterations of his classic songs.

Thanks to our Mandatory Policy of Must Hate Muslims and the Horses They Rode In On I became uneasy about Yusuf Islam. Cat Stevens is one of the very most talented musical creators of our era. I loved his music unabashedly, but he went whole hog for Islam. This should make no difference at all in our perception of him.

He talks about his conversion in the interview in such a lighthearted way that I don't think anyone could ever find fault with him for it.

"Jesus is on the main line tell him what you want, just tell him what you want."

It would seem that part and parcel to this would be

"Jesus is on the main line just ask him what he wants."

We have no insight into what God speaks to another.

The main line is not a party line and I would hate to be caught trying to listen in.

I have many problems with Muslim scriptures. Especially the ones the enumerate
the reasons I should be put to death.

But I was not included on the call and so can have no insight as to what was being said.

I just know that God has never asked me to kill another and if he did, I would ask to see his ID.

"the devil hath the power to assuming a pleasing face."

Thanks for re-posting this info, ThunderRd. Mr Stevens can do whatever he wishes to re-address "Tea For The Tillerman." TBH, I'm happy to re-listen to any and all of his original material. The modern additions simply do NOT float my boat. Old material is simply set in stone wth mess with it I don't think it can be improved.
The original is beyond what any other human was creating at the time. Why mess up great success?

I can't expect Mr Yusuf to keep making the fantastic material he did fifty years ago. I think attempting to gild the lily is simply A WASTE OF TIME.

    Can't say I disagree.

I 'acquired' a copy of the new album and gave it a listen. It has its moments; I like that fact that he addresses the situations in the eyes of a much older man as in 'Hard-Headed Woman':

'I've now got me a hard headed woman...and now that I've got my hardheaded woman, my life will be as it should...'

I also like the remake of 'Lisa, Lisa'.

But in the end I have to say that I agree with you...the original was so perfect, so inspiring, and so etched into my psyche that I can't shake it off and fully accept what he has done, albeit interesting. Listening to it inspires me more to listen to the original than it does to listen to this one again. And I did exactly that, last night, with my son, who really liked it.

I think that about sums it up. The original is timeless, and a musical treasure.

One thing I can say, though; Paul Samwell-Smith is a GREAT record producer, and the SOUND of the record is truly beautiful.

I have this problem a lot! Having listened for decades to many a song.
Even when the re-do is good, I want it to be as it always has been.

Artist have every right in the world to revisit their own material.

But I have every right to prefer the original

So ya wanna be a rock and roll star.!?
Write your self a song, record it.
wait 50 years and sing along with yourself as your father.

Only in our age could this art be born. First time I've heard directly from Cat.
He's everything I hoped for and more.

As one listens to this interview one gets the distinct impression that these two men know each other very well. They speak as old friends speak. Yet they have only just met.

To me this says a lot about both men.

    Thanks TR, without you I might not have known of this new recording for another 50 years.":O}

    PS
    The NPR interview is VERY slow to start playing, so wait for it.":O}
