Wow, I don't know how I missed this one, but I found it while reading about the death yesterday of Eddie Van Halen. The losses to the music world are going to come more and more frequently as we all get older ;(

My very favorite and terribly underrated R&B singer, Sweet Pea Atkinson died a few months ago at 74. You guys know him: I introduced him to you as the vocalist of the original 'Boneshakers' and 'Was (Not Was)'. He also toured with Lyle Lovett for many years and supported many, many big stars in the studio, including Bonnie Raitt:

I was a little depressed today. I have a weird hobby. I actually keep a list on paper, and I update it monthly. All of these in the last year or three:

Eddie is gone, Sweet Pea is gone, Bill Withers a short time ago, Peter Tork, Paul Williams, Dr John, Joao Gilberto [of 'The Girl from Epenema' fame with Stan Getz], Art Neville and Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers , Jimmy Johnson, Ric Okasek, Ginger Baker, Paul Barrere and Richie Hayward, both of Little Feat, Roy Clark, Marty Balin, Matt 'Guitar' Murphy, Dolores O'Riordan, Aretha, Greg Allman, Larry Coryell, J.Geils, Chester Bennington, Al Jarreau, Sister Sledge, Dave Valentin, Chris Cornell, Chuck Berry, Walter Becker, Glen Campbell, Tom Petty, Fats Domino, Malcolm Young, and so many others I have missed...

David Bowie, Prince, Keith Emerson and Greg Lake of ELP, Glenn Frey, Merle Haggard, George Michael, Leonard Cohen, Paul Kantner, Leon Russell, Lonnie Mack, Dan Hicks, B B King, Allen Toussaint, Chris Squire, Mike Porcaro....

I'm going to have a really bad day tomorrow. Gotta pull myself together. It's 2 am, and I am thinking about this shit. Tomorrow's another day. I hope.

While we wait to do so we will celebrate all they have given us in this life to help us though to the next one.
In Waiting a bit we will gain a glimpse of those who will Shepard young Daniel in a language all their very own.

This really is all our own fault ya know? All this loose talk of the immortal James Jameson The incomparable Diana Shore, we pretend they will never leave us. We pretend that if we loses them we loose all?

Music is immortal because it is always changing. It always sings in the voice of the time .all our beloved voices are just passing through. Music is nothing if not timing.

Brilliant artist fall from the stage as leaves fall in winter.
We weep to see them fade. And this is fitting as they always spoke to our hearts
it is our hearts that miss them.

But Music lives forever, not songs or composition, nor symphony.
Music.

We are but the temporal instruments Music blows through us like a flute.

I believe Music loves us. That she misses her best instruments when they pass.
We can hear her sadness in some of her songs.

Never forget that we to shall pass. What music would there be in Heaven if our favorite voices had not gone before us?

Take all those names and add the millions of voices that went before them,
Now close your eyes and try and see the Concert they are preparing just for you.
For you, the one who really loved them.

And when we go we may go assured that although we take our music with us
