Tower 57 is an 8-bit 80s twin-stick inspired action game! Every object in the game is destructible and you have 3 swappable character to slay all the baddies. Every level is designed with co-op in-mind and it shows... Tower 57 is a lot of fun and quite a challenge!



Follow my step-by-step guide on installing, configuring and optimizing Tower 57 in Linux with PlayOnLinux.

Note: This guide applies to the GOG version of Tower 57. Other versions may require additional steps.

Mint 19 64-bit
PlayOnLinux: 4.3.4
Wine: 4.0.2

Wine Installation

Click Tools
Select "Manage Wine Versions"



Look for the Wine Version: 4.0.2
Select it
Click the arrow pointing to the right



Click Next

Downloading Wine



Extracting

Installed



Click (amd64) Tab
Select 4.0.2
Click the arrow pointing to the right



Downloading Wine 64-bit



Installed



Wine 4.0.2 32-bit and 64-bit is installed, you can close this window

PlayOnLinux Setup

Launch PlayOnLinux
Click Install



Click "Install a non-listed program"



Select "Install a program in a new virtual drive"
Click Next



Name the virtual drive: tower57
Click Next



Check all three options:

• Use another version of Wine
• Configure Wine
• Install some libraries

Click Next



Select Wine 4.0.2
Click Next



Select "64 bits windows installation"
Click Next



Wine Configuration

Applications Tab
Windows version: Windows 7



Graphics Tab
Check "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows"
Click OK



PlayOnLinux Packages (DLLs, Libraries, Components)

Check the following:

• POL_Install_corefonts
• POL_Install_d3dx10
• POL_Install_d3dx11
• POL_Install_d3dx9
• POL_Install_tahoma

Click Next



Note: All packages should automatically download and install

Install Tower 57

Click Browse



Select "setup_tower_57_21.19_(22473).exe"
Click Open



Click Next again...

Click OK



Click Options
Check "Yes, I have read and accept EULA"
Uncheck "Create desktop icons"
Click Install



Click OK on all errors
Errors do not affect the game installation



Click Exit



PlayOnLinux Shortcut

Select "tower57.exe"
Click Next



Name the shortcut: Tower 57
Click Next



Select "I don't want to make another shortcut"
Click Next



PlayOnLinux Configure

Select "Tower 57" Click Configure



General Tab
Wine version: 4.0.2



Note: Click the + to download other versions of Wine. Click the down-arrow to select other versions of Wine

Display Tab
Video memory size: Enter the amount of memory your video card/chip uses



Close Configure

Run Tower 57
Select Tower 57
Click Run



Note: Click debug to see errors and bugs

In-Game Options

Click "4 Options"



Click Display
Adjust:

• Gamma
• Display
• Window Size
• Window Border

Conclusion:
Tower 57 ran perfectly on the first try and performance was no a problem on my GeForce GTX 1060. I was able to play couch co-op with an Xbox controller and the game ran GREAT. I was able to save and load a game to continue our adventure. For some reason the icon didn't appear when creating the shortcut, so you can go to the game folder and convert the icon to a PNG. Then in PlayOnLinux just right-click Tower 57 and select "Set icon" and browse to the PNG.
