Prince of Persia is the latest installment of the franchise and with a new make-over. All of the trick-jumps, climbing and platforming is there, but now you get to play cooperative with Princess Elika. Purge the corruption by slaying bosses of each realm and explore multiple routes to the next objective, all in comic-book style graphics.



Follow my step-by-step guide on installing, configuring and optimizing Prince of Persia in Linux with PlayOnLinux.

Note: This guide applies to the GOG version of Prince of Persia. Other versions may require additional steps.

Mint 18.1 64-bit
PlayOnLinux: 4.2.10
Wine: 2.0-staging

Wine Installation

Click Tools
Select "Manage Wine Versions"


Look for the Wine Version: 2.0-staging
Select it
Click the arrow pointing to the right


Click Next

Wine 2.0-staging is installed and you can close this window

PlayOnLinux Setup

Launch PlayOnLinux
Click Install


Click "Install a non-listed program"


Select "Install a program in a new virtual drive"
Click Next


Name the Virtual Drive: princeofperisa
Click Next


Check all three options:

• Use another version of Wine
• Configure Wine
• Install some libraries

Click Next


Select Wine: 2.0-staging
Click Next


Select "32 bits windows installation"
Click Next


Wine Configuration

Applications Tab
Windows version: Windows 7
Click Apply


Graphics Tab
Check "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows"
Check "Emulate a virtual desktop"
Desktop size: 1024x768
Click OK


PlayOnLinux Packages (DLLs, Libraries, Components)

Check the Following:

• POL_Install_corefonts
• POL_Install_d3dx9
• POL_Install_tahoma

Click Next


Click Browse

Select "setup_prince_of_persia_2.0.0.17.exe"
Click Open


Click Next


Click Options
Check "Yes, I have read and accept EULA"
Uncheck "Create desktop icons"
Click Install


Click Exit


PlayOnLinux Shortcuts

Select "Prince of Persia.exe"
Click Next


Name the shortcut: Prince of Persia
Click Next


Select "Launcher.exe"
Click Next


Name this shortcut: PoP Launcher
Click Next


Select "I don't want to make another shortcut"
Click Next


PlayOnLinux Configure

Select "Prince of Persia"
Click Configure


General Tab
Wine version: 2.0-staging


Note: Click the + to download other versions of Wine. Click the down-arrow to select other versions of Wine

Display Tab
Video memory size: Enter the amount of memory your video card/chip uses


Optmization

Select "PoP Launcher"
Click Run


Note: Click Debug to see errors and bugs

Click Settings


Adjust:

• Screen Resolution
• Widescreen
• Vertical Sync
• Antialiasing
• Graphics Quality
• High Resolution textures

Click OK


Click "Launch the game!"
or Quit launchPoP Launcher and run Prince of Persia


Conclusion:
Prince of Persia ran great on my GeForce GTX 950. There were some short freezes when loading some content, but otherwise climbing and fighting was smooth. This game has some wonderful Borderlands-ish graphics and amazing animation. It is a lot of fun playing co-operative finding the way to the next area and then fighting off minions and bosses.
