Oddworld Abe's Oddysee Guide

    Play as Abe escaping Rupture Farms from being made into the new entree: Tasty Treats. Abe's Oddysee is a classic platform puzzle-jump game from the 90's in a 3D rendered environment.

    Follow my step-by-step guide on installing, configuring and optimizing Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee in Linux with PlayOnLinux.

    Note: This guide applies to the GOG version of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. Other versions may require additional steps.

    Mint 18.2 64-bit
    PlayOnLinux: 4.2.12
    Wine: 2.0.2

    Wine Installation

    Click Tools
    Select "Manage Wine Versions"

    Look for the Wine Version: 2.0.3
    Select it
    Click the arrow pointing to the right

    Click Next

    Downloading Wine

    Extracting

    Downloading Gecko

    Installed

    Wine 2.0.3 is installed and you can close this window

    PlayOnLinux Setup

    Launch PlayOnLinux
    Click Install

    Click "Install a non-listed program"

    Click Next

    Select "install a program in a new virtual drive"
    Click Next

    Name the virtual drive: abesoddysee
    Click Next
    abesoddysee04.png

    Check all three options:
    • Use another version of Wine
    • Configure Wine
    • Install some libraries
    Click Next

    Select Wine: 2.0.3
    Click Next

    Select "32 bits windows installation"
    Click Next

    Wine Configuration

    Applications Tab
    Windows version: Windows 7
    Click Apply

    Graphics Tab
    Check "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows"
    Click Next

    PlayOnLinux Packages (DLLs, Libraries, Components)

    Check the following:
    • POL_Install_corefonts
    • POL_Install_d3dx9
    • POL_Install_tahoma
    Click Next

    Note: All packages should automatically download and install

    Click Browse

    Select "setup_abes_oddsee_2.0.0.4.exe"
    Click Open

    Click Next again

    Click Options
    Uncheck "Create desktop icons"
    Check "Yes, I have read and accept EULA"
    Click Install

    Click Exit

    PlayOnLinux Shortcut

    Select "AbeWin.exe"
    Click Next

    Name the shortcut: Abes Oddysee
    Click Next

    Select "I don't want to make another shortcut"
    Click Next

    PlayOnLinux Configure

    Select "Abes Oddysee"
    Click Configure

    General Tab
    Wine version: 2.0.3

    Note: Click the + to download other versions of Wine. Click the down-arrow to select other versions of Wine

    Display Tab
    Video memory size: Enter the amount of memory your video card/chip uses

    Close Configure

    Back to PlayOnLinux
    Select "Abes Oddysee"
    Click Run

    Note: Click debug to see errors and bugs

    Conclusion:
    Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee ran perfectly out of the box. Its an older game from the 90's so don't expect high resolution compatibility.

    I want to say thank you for this guide, thanks to this guide I was able to figure out how to configure it for Heroic Launcher and Lutris thus far and probably to getting functioning properly on steam.

    hey Abes Oddyse is a clasic that truly deserve atention.the game combines platforming chalenges with an engagin story and unique art style.its worth trying, especialy on Linux, where it runs prety wel thanks to Proton.if you enjoy 90s games, this title wil surely remind you of your childhod.What other clasics would you like to se on Linux? ;)
