    Play as Zan, a half Orc half Demon warrior in an old school shooter DOOM II total conversion. Slay factions of Cultists and Chaotic Demons in a totally unique fantasy world. Wield an arsenal of magical weapons, explore, solve puzzles and fight along-side Orcs, Goblins, Minotaurs and Dwarves.

    Follow my step-by-step guide on installing, configuring and optimizing Hedon in Linux with PlayOnLinux.

    Note: This guide applies to the Moddb demo version of Hedon. Other versions may require additional steps.

    Mint 18.3 64-bit
    PlayOnLinux: 4.2.12
    Wine: 3.3 64-bit

    Wine Installation

    Click Tools
    Select "Manage Wine Versions"

    Click Tab: Wine Versions (amd64)
    Look for the Wine Version: 3.3
    Select it
    Click the arrow pointing to the right

    Click Next

    Downloading Wine

    Extracting

    Downloading Gecko

    Installed

    Wine 3.3 64-bit is installed and you can close this window

    Download Hedon

    Go to: http://www.moddb.com/mods/hedon/downloads/hedon-05a-final-open-alpha
    Download Hedon_0.5/a/zip
    Save to your desktop

    PlayOnLinux Setup

    Launch PlayOnLinux
    Click Install

    Click "Install a non-listed program"

    Select "Install a program in a new virtual drive"
    Click Next

    Name the virtual drive: hedon
    Click Next
    hedon04.png

    Check all three options:
    • Use another version of Wine
    • Configure Wine
    • Install some libraries
    Click Next

    Select Wine 3.3
    Click Next

    Select "64 bits windows installation"
    Click Next

    Wine Configuration

    Applications Tab
    Windows version: windows 7

    Graphics Tab
    Check "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows"
    Click OK

    PlayOnLinux Packages (DLLs, Libraries, Components)

    Check the following:
    • POL_Install_corefonts
    • POL_Install_d3dx9
    • POL_Install_tahoma
    Click Next

    Click Cancel on the "Browse" screen

    Open Hedon_0.4.a.zip with Archive Manager
    Click Extract

    Navigate to:
    Code:
    /home/username/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/hedon/drive_c/Program Files
    Click Extract

    Click Quit

    Back to PlayOnLinux
    Click Configure

    Select "Hedon" on the left side
    Click "Make a new shortcut from this virtual drive"

    Select "GZDoom - Launch Hedon.exe"
    Click Next

    Name the shortcut: Hedon
    Click Next

    Click "I don't want to make another shortcut"
    Click Next

    Back to Configure

    General Tab
    Wine version: 3.3

    Note: Click the + to download other versions of Wine. Click the down-arrow to select other versions of Wine

    Display Tab
    Video memory size: Enter the amount of memory your video card/chip uses

    Close Configure

    Select Hedon
    Click Run

    Note: Click debug to see errors and bugs

    Options

    Select Options

    Set Video Mode

    Adjust:
    • Fullscreen
    • Aspect Ratio
    • Forced ratio style
    • Resolution Scale
    • Scale Factor

    Conclusion:
    GZDoom engine should run easily in Wine on just about any computer. Hedon played perfectly in 1920x1080 resolution and performance was smooth. No issues, no bugs.
