    We're most likely going to have to think about a subtopic for graphic card and driver performance/problems/troubleshooting on Linux. Also to include links to current drivers both stable and beta, although most distros would have the stable versions available via the appropriate package manager.

    Absolutely!
    I can even make a short guide on the different ways to install Nvidia drivers... you know, headers, devels, killing xserver, etc.

    Yeah I'm seeing it this way to. I learned in PC gaming in Windows everyone wants to run the latest drivers that will work for them. Destro's don't provide the latest to often, usually a more stable older driver. A verity of approaches will give everyone their best chance at success...imho
    Good One TR! ":O}

    Yeah Dan, you learned the hard way... purchased a state-of-the-art video card and the existing Nvidia drivers didn't support it very well.
    The cool thing is Nividia and Mint got you those drivers within a month or so.
    Not bad for the Linux world

    Boo...you simply have to get over my Video card! LOL

    A lot of folks are going to be coming here because they just bought a kick ass card, we don't want them to feel bad about that now do we? ":O}

    Of course not, but we also have to warn them before they buy it.
    But at least we have your experience to help them get it running properly.

    My experience was a passing condition, it passed with new drivers. But we see that in Windows as well...or I use to! ":O}

    But your point is taken. I do not get all my card has to offer, but I will in time. Now weather that's a cost effective approach or not I don't know. But emotionally it is very satisfying having good equipment, even if you don't quite need all you bought... you know it will be a while before you come up short.

    If the card works well, then you will never regret purchasing it.
    That card should continue to perform well and have great frame rates for at least 4 years with the newest games.
    Unless there is a HUGE breakthrough, it will be a rocking card for a long time.
    I still have a couple 8800's and they still play a lot of games with decent frame rates

    you know, I've never done benchmarks... I don't see a lot of value in them, but I will try anything once.
    Maybe I'll do video frame rate benchmarks.
    Play a game with onscreen frame rates and show people how well the card works in real-life scenarios

    That's where things get tricky. I've looked around a bit and had others make suggestions.
    Phoronix Test Suite v4.0.0 is by far the most complete and various. It benches almost everything. But it runs in Terminal and isn't much fun to watch.":O}

    POL offers one or two quite old Video Card bench marks. For Video cards... I'd love to be able to run a newer Video card bench mark under Mint 14!

    The only problem with hardware benchmarks is that you have to purchase new hardware to do the benchmarks.
    I can't afford to do that. Most of my hardware is getting obsolete as we speak.

    Not so! Phoronix Test Suite will bench most anything...Ok that's not actually known by me to be true... but try it, I 'm sure it will bench your gear.
