Fallout is an open world turn-based post nuclear RPG where you try to survive as a Vault Dweller. Experience random battles as you traverse the wasteland searching for loot, completing quests and slaying mutated animals, renegades and monsters.

    Conclusion:
Fallout 1 ran perfectly on my GeForce 550 Ti. It even recognized my 1680x1050 widescreen resolution without any patches, mods or hacks. Of course performance was perfect due to the age of the game.

Game works but I get this error

    Error in main
    Fallout crashed.
Click on debug link to get more details.
  3. booman
At what point did it crash?
    What distro are you using?
    System specs?

I didn't have any problems in Mint 17.2 64-bit on my GeForce 550 Ti or my 7600 GT.
Both worked flawlessly. I could travel, save, combat, loot, dialog, quests, everything.
  4. Megazell
    Linux Mint 17.1 - XFCE 64 bit
    XFX Radeon 7870 2 GB

The game runs but when I exit the game I get that error. I have Fallout 1 installed using this method - https://www.gog.com/forum/fallout_series/linux_install_the_fallout_saga_on_debianubuntumintetc and it works without any issue. I was trying to give PlayOnLinux a shot since I never used it before.

I've heard that Fallout could run in Linux natively. I didn't bother because it ran so well in PlayOnLinux/Wine
From time to time games will refuse to shutdown properly. Sometimes all you have to do is wait... other times I go to PlayOnlinux Configure Wine Tab and click "Kill Processes"

If you can run Fallout just fine with those .deb packages, then do it that way from now on.
Nevermind, I read the instructions and even those scripts use Wine as well.
  6. Megazell
I am going to try the kill processes trick when I get home.
  7. booman
As long as the game runs fine, that should close it on Exit.
You could always look at the debug when it refuses to exit.
  8. Megazell
Correct - The game runs 100% but when it exits PlayOnLinux pops up with that list of errors I posted.
  9. booman
I wouldn't worry about it, unless it freezes your whole computer.
Try Alt+Tab to go back to PlayOnLinux and kill the process
  10. kingrobotjr
when i launch it say error initializing video mode 1024X748

i used this version to download it
  11. booman
Make sure to use the virtual desktop in Wine configuration. It will match the window size for you.
  12. kingrobotjr
tried this and even unchecked it
i think this comp is 20-30 years old so i wasn't expected much to happen
  13. booman
Oh, well that is why Fallout doesn't work. How did you get Linux on it?
