    Quake 4 Guide

I went ahead and downloaded the Linux port for Quake 4 and had a look. It appears to ship with a few libraries, and I had the exact same issue launching it as described. In the directory for Quake4 I deleted the file named "libstdc++.so.6" and then it would launch. I could not verify if the...

    Quake 4 Guide

I haven't personally tested this yet, but there is a chance that such an old binary might have problems on newer systems, or if there are bundled libraries, those could be incompatible with newer systems. You could investigate with the lddtree command on the main binary for the game. I could...

Media Center Build - Audio Artifacts

It changes back on its own? That seems to defeat the whole purpose of being able to change settings. Well, we could make a script that checks the value of powermizer, and switches it to performance if it is at any other value. Or for an even simpler brute-force style solution. A simple script...

Media Center Build - Audio Artifacts

My wife has a laptop with Mint and an Nvidia gpu, so I found the startup application in mint and it worked on her laptop. Just simply having it run the command (no sudo of course).

Media Center Build - Audio Artifacts

systemd does not look at rc.local at all, and unless Mint has some compatibility tools to parse rc.local, then that file is completely ignored. I'm not familiar with startup applications for Mint. When you tried creating one, did you use sudo in it? You should not use sudo for this command...

Media Center Build - Audio Artifacts

So after a bit of searching, there is supposedly a command that should do this. Try it to see if it changes it to maximum performance: nvidia-settings -a '[gpu:0]/GpuPowerMizerMode=1' If that successfully changes it to maximum performance, then I can help you implement it as part of the startup.

Media Center Build - Audio Artifacts

Isn't it typical, we keep looking for complicated reasons for the issue and then it turns out to be something simple. But if you had a laptop without this problem, and it also had Nvidia, then it might only be certain models that have some issues with the nvidia power management.

What game are you currently playing?

Wow, it's been a whole year since last post in this thread. Time for another update. As I'm currently on a trip far from home, I don't have access to my gaming computer, but I do have a small laptop with me that I can use for some older games. So I'm playing an old favorite of mine that I don't...

    Dishonored 2 in Proton

I have it on GOG, but I just use plain wine for those games. Still a while until I'm back home from my trip, but I'll be sure to let you know how it runs.

    Dishonored 2 in Proton

I never played Dishonered 2, but I loved the first game. The screenshots look really cool, I should definitely play this. I think I already own it so it's about time I get around to playing it.

    SOMA in Linux

GOG also has severely limited multiplayer experience in some games, or even completely lacking multiplayer. I am a huge fan of the no-DRM policy that GOG has, but the other limitations usually make me pick Steam. For games that are a 100% single player offline experience then I will usually...

    SOMA in Linux

I suppose some might not like the setting for Rebirth. It does some crazy stuff that was not seen in previous games, but personally I loved it. There's a very good deal of sci-fi mixed in, which was not really present in any of the previous Amnesia games. GOG does not seem to have the Linux...

    SOMA in Linux

There is the three Penumbra games, although the third one was not that good. But the first two Penumbra were actually really good, and I kind of prefer them over Amnesia. Then there is Amnesia of course, followed by Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Then you have Amnesia: Rebirth, which I only...

    SOMA in Linux

I really loved this game, the little twists it presented and the existential questions it forced you to consider. And all those sequences of walking on the bottom of the ocean floor was just so amazing, especially the depths towards the end.

    Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

There's no co-op, only single player. But it is a lot of fun to play.

    Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

Forgot to mention that it runs great in Proton on Steam. There is just one little issue, the few in-game cinematics do not play. You can play those cinamtics yourself from the game directory in Steam.

    Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

If you like first person shooters, and if you like 90's era games, and you like Warhammer 40,000, then do have a look at this game: Boltgun (steam link) You play as a Space Marine of the Ultramarines Chapter, fighting against traitors, demons, and chaos space marines. The weapons available are...

Playing through the entire Might and Magic series

A few screenshots from the first five Might and Magic games, to see how the graphics evolved. Might and Magic 1 - 1986 Might and Magic 2 - 1988 Might and Magic 3 - 1991 World of Xeen - Might and Magic 4 & 5 - 1992 & 1993

Playing through the entire Might and Magic series

Earlier this year, I got the idea to fully play through the Might and Magic series, including Heroes of Might and Magic. It's been quite a few years since I did that, so I wanted to experience these amazing games all over again. By now I've made some decent progress. I'll post some screenshots...
