Has anyone tried this out? Just installed and about to run it first time.

(not sure if this is the right place to post this)

So far I haven't had luck installing any game, it freezes the whole PC when trying to run an executable inside the bottle (prefix)

    updates:
    - at first I installed bottles trough linuxmint 20.2 software manager with a flatpak. It froze the whole PC while trying to run a windows executable.
    - then I installed the deb, same results.
    - then I tried in an ubuntu 21.10 install, no flatpak there, so tried with the deb, same result.
    - As apparently it originally was an elementaryos thing, tried it there with a flatpak install from the flathub, as it wasn't in the software manager. I was able to install winrar, and it worked flawlessly. Could not try it with a game because my test elementaryos 6 installation didn't have enough space.
    - went back to linuxmint and tried a cli flatpak install, still freezing.
    - so finally tried the appimage way (I was hesitant before because I have recently read about security concerns). It worked, allowing to install winrar and run it.

Now I am going to try with a game.

    Wow, nice job investigating bottles!
I've heard of it, but at this point I've been using PlayOnLinux for almost 10 years and I'm "locked in"

But its always cool to hear what other people are doing with Windows games in Linux.

Most people rave about Lutris, but I've tried it and had a hard time testing games. I'm not a typical gamer who just plays games, I test them almost weekly.

Here are the most typical methods of playing Windows games in Linux:
    • Wine
    • Crossover
    • Winetricks
    • Lutris
    • PlayOnLinux
    • Bottles

Well, appimage stopped working, at least in my linuxmint install.
I had managed to run some games, they all also worked in PoL too, so no problem.
I was interested with it having wine versions and components/dependicies like dotnet updated compared to PoL.
Will try again when another version comes up.
By the way, does anyone know how to find appimage logs for troubleshooting?

Which makes me wish ProtonUp-Qt would add support for PlayOnLinux, an easy way to add different wine versions to steam and lutris

I've actually used Proton and ProtonGE in PlayOnLinux. Its just not available in the Components area.

I'm pretty sure you can use Wine and WineStaging in Steam too. Just takes some manual intervention
