My work is in need of some Chrombooks, so I went on CDW and Amazon to look for a few 14 inch models...
To my surprise almost all of them are SOLD OUT!

This is great news for Linux as Chromebook use Chrome OS which is a Linux distribution developed by Google. Its awesome seeing the growing need for cheap laptops with Linux already ready-to-go!

Are Digital Miners Forcing GPU Prices to Increase?

A friend of mine decided on a new Gaming build and found that video card prices are ridiculously high!
He ended up getting a budget card instead of next-Gen because of the $800.00 + prices.

I found this is due to BitCoin miners purchasing all of the top-of-the-line cards to mine their mining.
Sucks for us!

Most of the lawsuits - 30 - are customer class action cases that claim that users were harmed by Intel’s “actions and/or omissions” related to the flaws, which could allow hackers to steal data from computers.

Linus Torvalds Announces Linux 4.0, has problems counting [again]

The Boss says that the next kernel release will be 4.0, after a developers' survey that asked if they were ready to start a new numbering series. The next kernel would have been 3.20 if the devs hadn't voted for 4.0.

He says the new number series doesn't mean that much, except that "I can do releases without having to take off my socks again." If you remember, going from 2.x to 3.x was for much the same reason, as I reported here: https://www.aoaforums.com/forum/linux/49804-linus-cant-count-40-dubs-kernel.html

Interestingly enough, the 'strongest argument' for the new scheme seems to be that people have "a wish to see 4.1.15 - because "that was the version of Linux skynet used for the T-800 terminator." [The version of the android played by Arnold Schwartzenegger.]

The IRC channel is OPEN: #GamersOnLinux [irc.OFTC.net]

After a month of experimentation and discussion, we can announce that the *OFFICIAL* IRC channel for Gamers On Linux is at:

irc.oftc.net
#GamersOnLinux

Aremis has pitched in and will help supervise the channel, I'll be in there, and anyone else who wants to can drop by and have a bit of a chat with us. Beware of the time zones and don't get frustrated, thinking we are ignoring you: you might not get an answer right away until we have more participants lurking around. I'm in GMT +7, and Aremis is in GMT -6. If I'm sleeping, you'll see my name as 'thunderrd[away]', so you know I won't be back for some time. Aremis and I plan to be logged in 24/7, but of course, we aren't always available.

Like most things of this nature, popularity can develop slowly, so give it a try and see how you like it.

Just go in, ask away, and idle in the channel; hopefully if this thing gets rolling we can have some of our 'experts' around frequently. Make appointments with your mates if you want...

This is post from my blog: How to install the latest NVIDIA Drivers in Linux Mint 16 "petra"

Hey there, linux users around the world. I'll be writing a little how-to install NVIDIA drivers

Please follow this guide if:

  • You really need the drivers. Some drivers could lead to instability, uninstalling them is an easy task though.
  • You want the latest NVIDIA drivers for Linux, I think that's why you are here. Let's get started
Things you need to know beforehand. If your distro upgrades the kernel or any X.org package there's a high possibility that your drivers might break. This isn't a big issue because you can reinstall them as many time as you want. I always keep a folder of NVIDIA drivers in my...

Nvidia to publish Open GPU documentation. Has hell frozen over?

Big, *big* news here, people...this could be a big step in the right direction to get Nouveau on track, and getting a *proper* open-source driver written for Nvidia GPUs. Nouveau shows promise, but for 3D, it simply isn't viable.

Yet.
