So I downloaded the Wing Commander 1/2 bundle from GOG, and installed it using POL. Most of the time it doesn't come up at all, it just crashes. Occasionally it comes up, but the sound is all garbaged.

Any thoughts? I used the default POL GOG Wing Commander installation scripts.

If I'm not mistaken, those are DosBox games, right? I would suggest extracting the GOG installer with innoextract, and then simply running it from native DosBox without doing through PlayOnLinux. I have not had much luck having DosBox games running through PlayOnLinux either, besides I prefer to configure them myself.

    Yes, they are DosBox games.

I've not used innoextract, so I'll have to sus that out.

This page provides information for installing it in many different distros. Once installed it is run from command line.

    innoextract file_to_extract

The example above would simply extract the contents of the GOG installer into the directory you are in, so it is pretty straightforward to use.

Edit: Come to think of it, since you've installed the game in PlayOnLinux, you already have the game files extracted within the virtual drive. So you could simply grab them from there.

Dude read the guides... I made one just for you!
Both Daerandin and I have guides on Dosbox.
Most GOG dos games will run perfectly in the Linux Dosbox.
