The last I heard on the PlayOnLinux News page and their Google+ page is they are almost ready to release PlayOnLinux 5 There have been a few unresolved bugs with dotnet packages recently but I noticed that the PlayOnLinux developers are still making new versions of Wine available for us. Its been almost 4 months and nothing new... What is going on? If we have to look for a new Wine client this might break all of our 280 step-by-step guides. What are our options these days?
My understanding from the last I saw was that POL 5 was pretty much a rewrite, which may have become more work than they anticipated. For sure it handled hidpi very badly.
I seem to recall hearing that as well. If true, that means a complete rewrite, as the existing code is Python. TBH, I'm a little perplexed what they hope to gain by rewriting in Java, unless there is a mature framework of some sort they plan to leverage in Java.
Here are a few frontend applications that use Wine: https://wiki.winehq.org/Third_Party_Applications PlayOnLinux is on the list, of course, but I'm not sure if any of the others will be as flexible and easy-to-use?
