There are a lot of Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games out there right now. A lot of them are free and driven by advertising and in-game money. Wakfu is grid-like, turn-based free MMORPG, but has native support for Linux.



There is a lot more than your standard RPG...
Select from 15 classes consisting of ranged, melee, steam-punk, mage-like and much much more.
Utilize many abilities and skill attributes to battle multiple minions. Follow quests or just explore the land. Use an interesting take on Alchemy by harvesting animals and plants, then planting more. Join up with friends or play solo and level up your characters abilities and skills.

Follow my step-by-step guide on installing, configuring and optimizing Wakfu in Linux.

Download Wakfu

Go To: http://www.wakfu.com/en/mmorpg/game/download
Click Download Wakfu


Navigate to your desktop
click Save


Double-click wakfu-x86.tar.gz
It should automatically open in your Archive program
Click Extract


Navigate to your Desktop
Click Extract


Click Close
Close your Archive Manager


Note: Its a good idea to put the Wakfu folder in your /home folder

Navigate to where you extracted the Wakfu folder
Open the Wakfu folder
Double-Click Wakfu


Click "Run in Terminal"


Wakfu will automatically start downloading game files


More downloading


Click Play


Login to your Wakfu account
Or click Create Account and sign up
Click Play


Select your class and create a character name




Once in-game, hit Esc to see the options menu
Click Options


Click Video Tab

Select Fullscreen
Adjust level of detail
Adjust fight quality level
Check and/or uncheck other

Wakfu is a fairly low quality 2D game and should run on most laptops

Click the Checkmark to apply changes


Rule of Thumb:
Higher settings = More detail, lower frame rates
Lower settings = Less detail, higher frame rates

Conclusion:
Wakfu ran perfectly on my GeForce 550 Ti and I was very impressed with all the animation, effects and visuals. I had to keep selecting "Fullscreen" in the Options each time I launched. After a few times the game remembered this setting.
I even tested it on my Chromebook with ChrUbuntu and an Intel HD 2000 video chip.
Wakfu ran fine, except the fonts were too small to read.
