    Take No Prisoners is a classic top-down dual-stick action shooter by Raven Software. Battle hostile factions in San Antoinio Texas in a post-apocalyptic near future. Solve puzzles, use stealth or agressive weapons to slay Robots, Aliens, Mercenaries and Faction Soldiers.

    Follow my step-by-step guide on installing, configuring and optimizing Take No Prisoners in Linux with PlayOnLinux.

    Note: This guide applies to the retail version of Take No Prisoners. Other versions may require additional steps.

    Mint 17.3 64-bit
    PlayOnLinux: 4.2.10
    Wine: 1.8.4

    Wine Installation

    Click Tools
    Select "Manage Wine Versions"

    Look for the Wine Version: 1.8.4
    Select it
    Click the arrow pointing to the right

    Click Next

    Downloading Wine

    Extracting

    Downloading Gecko

    Installed

    Wine 1.8.4 is installed and you can close this window

    PlayOnLinux Setup

    Launch PlayOnLinux
    Click Install

    Click "Install a non-listed program"

    Click Next

    Select "Install a program in a new virtual drive"
    Click Next

    Name the virtual drive: takenoprisoners
    Click Next

    Check all three options:
    • Use another version of Wine
    • Configure Wine
    • Install some libraries
    Click Next

    Select Wine 1.8.4
    Click Next

    Select "32 bits windows installation"
    Click Next

    Wine Configuration

    Applications Tab
    Windows version: Windows 98
    Click Apply

    Graphics Tab
    Check "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows"
    Check "Emulate a virtual desktop"
    Desktop size: 800x600
    Click OK

    PlayOnLinux Packages (DLL's, Components, Libraries)

    Check the following:
    • POL_Install_corefonts
    • POL_Install_d3dx9
    • POL_Install_tahoma
    Click Next

    Note: All packages will automatically download and install

    Installing Take No Prisoners

    Select "Select another file"
    Click Next

    Click Browse

    Navigate to the CD ROM
    Select "setup.exe"
    Click Open

    Click Next again...

    Click Next

    Check "Full"
    Click Next

    Click Next

    Red Ord Zone Client
    Click NO

    Click OK

    Click Cancel

    Click OK

    Click OK again

    PlayOnLinux Shortcut

    Select "tnp.exe"
    Click Next

    Name the shortcut: Take No Prisoners
    Click Next

    Select "I don't want to make another shortcut"
    Click Next

    PlayOnLinux Configure

    Select "Take No Prisoners"
    Click Configure

    General Tab
    Wine version: 1.8.4

    Note: Click the + to download other versions of Wine. Click the down-arrow to select other versions of Wine

    Display Tab
    Video memory size: Enter the amount of memory your video card/chip uses

    Close Configure

    Run Take No Prisoners

    Select "Take No Prisoners"
    Click Run

    Note: Click debug to see errors and bugs

    Click OK

    Conclusion:
    Once Take No Prisoners is set to Windows 98, it runs great. Unfortunately there is no high resolution support, so you will need to set your Linux Desktop to 800x600 or play it in a window.
