I had to post this... gaming has come a long way and Deathwing looks amazing! Its being made with Unreal4Engine so there might be a chance of a Linux version (probably not but you never know)
Total 40k fan, got the game as gift... got Ubuntu 16.10... got wine 2... is it possible? Does someone already have experiences?
Currently Wine does not properly support DX11, which this game requires. However, they are working on getting DX11 to work in Wine. It is not easy to say how long it will take, but as with all open source projects, don't expect things to happen quickly. Cronyk, if you like Warhammer 40k, be sure to check out Dawn of War 2, it has a native Linux version that runs great. There is also another game on Steam called Space Hulk Ascension (as well as the original Space Hulk) which is a turn based game based on the board game of the same name. These games also have excellent Linux versions. As for Deathwing, it was made by Streum on Studio, same people who made E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy. They have no past experience in supporting Linux so I would not have too high hopes for a Linux version for this game. Personally I'll be checking Winehq to see if anyone has reported luck with this game before I try it myself.
Checked WineHQ and there is nothing there for "Deathwing" But they are developing for DirectX 11 Compatibility in Wine. So maybe some day in the future we'll see more DX10/11 games
I don't think we can expect any entries on Winehq about this game until a few months after release. Someone will need to test it and post on Winehq first. As for DX10/11 support on Wine, I have a few games that I intend to try out as soon as it happens (including this game). I have confidence that it will work at some point as I have seen all my favorite games work eventually. We just need patience as Wine slowly improves for each release.
Agreed. Wine development is slow, but totally worth the wait. I have no problem with most of my DX9 games in Wine/PlayOnLinux and there are plenty of new one's that still work great.
According to this post on WineHQ, the game actually runs, although with graphical issues. I will buy the game on Steam the next time it is on sale and try it out myself. It seems like Wine is really making progress in regards to DX11 support.
Yes it is... I was able to play Gauntlet with no serious issues. Hence the guide. I can't wait to try games like Assassins Creed III and Just Cause 2
