If anyone is thinking about updating to PlayOnLinux version 4.2.7, so keep in mind that it is suffering from a few bugs. The create shortcut feature will appear empty after creating one shortcut. To create another from the same virtual drive you need to start the shortcut create feature again. Furthermore, additional libraries will not install during a manual install. You need to go select your virtual drive from the Configuration window, and go to the "Install components" tab in order to install any libraries. Both of these bugs are known to the PoL devs and already fixed in the development version. So when version 4.2.8 comes out, these issues should be fixed. I just wanted to post about the issues here so people here are aware of it and know they will be fixed.
Hmm, I haven't had these problems... that I know of I noticed when you create a shortcut you have to select "I don't want to create another shortcut" and then click Next. In the past versions I would just click Next again and it would close. Also I am able to install Packages via manual installation, but now they have forced us to "agree" to every single package before downloading. I don't include these steps in my guides, but instead just make a note so readers can expect it.
Of course, I updated as soon as I saw the pop-up in PlayOnLinux Updating is quick and painless. I've already tested a few games in 4.2.7 Frets On Fire and Neverwinter
Strange that you are not having those problems then. I contacted the PoL devs as soon as I noticed these bugs and they had already gotten reports from several other people regarding these issues. In any case, I'm not doing any new installs until the next version.
Ugh, that sucks Those are serious bugs if you won't install any more games. So far each update has been pretty painless. Yeah, its strange I haven't noticed these bugs. I don't normally create more than one shortcut anyways, but I always install packages with every game. I'll keep an eye on these problems until they release the new version. I have a few games that I plan to test this week: Necrovision Just Cause 1
WineHQ's shows bronze and garbage for Just Cause, but I'm going to test it anyways. I've never played Necrovision, but I picked it up for about $1.50 so its worth it even if I have to play in Windows. Were you getting low frame rates in Necrovision?
Normally in wine appdb have many test but non updated Just Cause 1 (explode cars in group are very funny) i test recently and works good Respect necrovision this is test make sometime ago
I just installed Mint 17.1 on another Desktop and when installing PlayOnLinux and launching the first time I get these errors: Can't find Wine Can't Find xterm I swear I installed Wine because that is one of the first things I always do in a new installation. I checked software manager and sure enough, Wine was not installed. I also checked synaptics package installer and searched for "xterm" Then installed it as well. I'll check tonight to see if PlayOnLinux 4.2.7 is finally happy. I'm not sure why "xterm" wasn't already installed in Mint
