It sucks on so many levels that I have decided to give Linucs a chance! May God have mercy on my soul!
Why does it suck that you are giving a vastly superior operating system a chance? I hope you give it a good fair chance so that you can realize the joy of Linux. Stability, Security, so Customizable.
Microsoft support sucks, spent hours on the phone with no results they can't troubleshoot serious issues.
Lmao I feel really welcomed to linux, now I need to run to the shop and buy me some usb stick or dvd's to burn some images for installation. Hows everyone doing?
Finally we pulled you in! Now when you have serious issues you can call us and the internet. What it really comes down to is: What do you use your computer primarily for? If its an office computer where you require Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, Quicken, AutoCAD, Adobe, etc... then Windows is your thing. But if its a personal computer where you do email, internet, some games and some creativity production... Linux is perfect for you. Please post any concerns you have and we'll try to help you out! I still use Windows for LAN gaming and my wife uses Photoshop a lot, other wise I still plan on going full Linux in a few years when all of my LAN games are well tested in Linux.
Cheers Boo. I have my Windows 8.1 tablet for any work related stuff, I only need the laptop to edit photos. Can I use Adobe products in Wine? Any other photo editing software that is on par with Lightroom?
Remember that you can always install Windows in a Virtual Machine within your Linux install, and run stuff that WINE can't handle. VMs are fairly easy to create in Linux, and I have found them to be quite stable most of the time.
I have read on WineHQ's that Photoshop runs in Wine. I have yet to test it myself. I did get Sketchup to run though. I don't know of any program that is similar to Lightroom, but I'm sure there is something out there. GIMP is pretty awesome and has a lot of raster image editing capabilities.
LightZone is a image batch processing program and its totally free Of course you have to learn it too. That is the reason why I havn't completely moved to GIMP yet because I have been using Photoshop for many years. If I want to edit a photo, it takes me twice as long in GIMP because I have to figure it out.
I think I will use VM as it is probably the best advice towards this. Cheers guys I will let you know how things go.
It may run slow depending on your hardware. Dual boot might be better but it tricky with the partitioning
Chris, try your adobe stuff with WINE first. It's well-documented that Photoshop runs well under WINE. Use a VM/Windows for stuff that refuses to run. I think you'll find they are few in number.
If it's Photoshop CC, then I've heard ppl have had problems due to a Wine issue. Older versions should generally be fine though.
