My external usb hard drive kicked the bucket. I bought a new Samsung EVO 500 gig for to replace it. My mint sees and creates a single partion which I format with EXT4. I add in about 40 gigs of music a few odds and ins. Everything is Super fast Transfer between two SSD drives can actually be trilling! But I bought it to use as my backup drive. The only one who can't see it is clonezilla. Can anyone suggest just why that would be. I tried switching my connection between my drives, Could still see my corsair, but not my EVO. I've tried to back up a dozen times, it just doesn't see my new drive. I'll check out clonzilla site see what's new.
How is it connected, via USB or is it internal? [You said you replaced the USB drive, so I'm not sure]
My very bad! I should have said! It's a sata 111 internal drive. She clocks at 100mz faster than my fast OCZ at 400
IDK why that isn't seen. Anything connected to an internal SATA port should turn up automatically. Did you have to set something in the BIOS for the drive to be seen?
Not that I know of, just hooked it up to sata and power then partitioned the whole drive as one partition then formated it. It works great everywhere except CZ. I'll poke around my BIOS settings just in case. I have some new Blank DVD's coming. Probably in a week. I'll try CZ's newest release. Let me know if you think of anything, I'll let you know if I find a cure.
I checked my BIOS, the new drive is setup just like my corsair and OCZ drives. Like my Corsair 90gig Music drive it's set not to boot. Like yourself, I just don't get it! It shows up in "My computer" and is perfectly serviceable from desktop. Samsung's been making these for three or more years. So no new tech. sigh...":O}
What's wrong with you TR? Why didn't you ask me if I used EXT 4 ENCRYPTED to format my drive? Evidently cloneZilla don't grok no Linux encryption. All is well and I'm fully backed up! ":O} Thanks TR for puzzling this one with me.":O}
First I went for fat, not knowing for sure just had a hunch I should start over. When it saw my drive I backed out and went with EXT4 STANDARD! I must not have seen the encrypted designation as I woundn't have deliberately chosen it...So it goes! LOL
I think a lot of distros are starting to default to using lux and encrypting the file system whenever you create a new one.
That well may be true, but they won't be backing it up with Clonezilla...Wait a sec, My copy is old as back when TR first gave it to me, so maybe now they do!":O}
I got 50 HP DVD-r for 10 bucks on Ebay, when they arrive I'll be looking at a few things I haven't updated in years, like Clonezilla. I didn't want that many but at 5 for a buck I went for a lifetime supply ":O}
I know TR, it a matter of keeping them around. That and I need around three to six of them a year so it just doesn't seem worth the bother to keep both around. I mean I got 5 year supply for 10 bucks.":O}
