Mint 18 is offering Kernel updates....But Mint warns about kernel regressions screwing things up. Will someone please put this into perspective for me? Should the Kereal be kept up to date or no? System up dates is less than encourging about this update,,,Yet they offer it for the more advanced users... How advanced should I be before giving this a try? ":O}
I never do Kernel updates. Mostly because I'm keeping my test systems "vanilla" for guides, but I rarely have problems. So there is no reason to update the Kernel unless you bought some new hardware and its not working properly.
Very good! I tend to shy away from doing so as if things go wrong...I don't have clue as to how to do repairs.
Me too, a bit. I don't want to break the stable system I already have. So I don't mess with kernel updates. I'll just wait until I upgrade to the newest version of Mint and it will come with a new kernel.... well it "should"
I'm probably a bit late for this but... anyways... I recently upgraded from Mint 17 to 18 (for several reasons) and after that I did a Kernel update and everything is working fine, I generally don't install anything that comes "red" on the updates list, and in fact now with mint 18 I have the update manager set to "Don't break my computer" (or whatever the English translation says). I don't usually do it to be honest I'm a "if it works don't touch it" person but apparently it is important to update it at least once in a while for security issues, improved stability, etc (that's what a guru told me a while ago).
